Nice tank! Those plecs are gorgeous!

Thanks, Evz_jardini, you're right about the aro, it's already had a big growth spurt since being moved into this tank.

A group of uarus would looks nice. I dont know if they are available in Nz but panda uarus would look great as well

oh man, don't even get me started!! If anyone is interested, here is the 'green list' of what we're allowed here; http://www.biosecurity.govt.nz/files/ihs/fisornic.all.pdf (starts on Page 21)

Panda uaru? nope. Satanoperca daemon? no. severums, other than green, gold and super red? forget it. rays? hahaha! So many great species I'd love to put in here, but really the altifrons and uaru are about all I'm interested in that we get. Festivums would be nice, if I could find some. The only thing on that list that might make those in the US a little jealous is Scleropages formosus, although they are very expensive still and hard-to-impossible to find.

I've toyed with the idea of adding other non-SA fish, I have a real soft spot for Clown Loaches and a school of them would certainly liven up the tank. Some bichirs would be nice too (oh yeah, we only get a couple of upper-jaw species here too), but for now I think I'll stick to the Amazon theme....

Basically up until the mid 90's it was a free-for-all, with only certain species such as piranha and anything venomous being banned. Then someone decided that it would be better [from an environmental perspective] to restrict imports to species that are already in the country and haven't caused any problems, we have koi, rudd and bullhead catfish established in many rivers displacing the native species, which is part of the reason behind the restrictions. Kind of ironic given that trout have had equally, if not worse, consequences for the native species but are treated in a completely different light because they're "sport fish". A survey of current species was done and the list drawn up, there have been a few additions where they had missed things that were obviously here, but for the most part very few new species have been added to the list since it's creation. It is very difficult, and expensive, to do so as peer-reviewed scientific papers must be used to prove that the proposed species pose no risk.

Aside from the fish laws it's a great place to live! So on with the thread...

Great looking setup. The perfect combination of fish :)

Very nice set up, love the stump it makes the tank IMO.
