My 210 FOWLR Turned Reef

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You sure do/did put alot of work into your system - kiddos very impressive. Sorry bout' the shipping issues, guess I'm lucky having That Fish Place in my backyard.

Hows that Phosban 550 doin' was gonna get the same model myself next week. It really runs on a maxi jet type pump cool I got plenty of those types of pumps laying around.

Also thanks for posting the current issues, I was curious if using multiple magnums was overkill as opposed to you original flo with multiple 3-4's. Think I'm gonna follow suit on the 3-4's. Too much current can cause fish to hide in undesirable locations.

The fish just came in and are being drip acclimated right now. Box came in looking good, water temp. was 70. The male wrasse is showing a little bit of frayed fins, but other than that they both look good. All the spots on the Achilles are actually stuff floating in the water and not on him.

Whoops didn't realize the wrasse one was so blurry. I will have to get another pic of him.

Your tank is looking good and congrats on finally getting your fish after all that.

Good luck with the Achilles, hopefully it all works out for you.

Wow, just can't catch a break. Male wrasse is dead. Drip acclimated for 2 hours and skipped the freshwater dip this time. Put him in the tank, he swam to the bottom and within 5 minutes the hermits were eating him. Unbelievable.

The Achilles seems to be doing quite well so far. He is in a 29 gallon QT tank and has been swimming all over the tank and not hiding really.

The other flame wrasses in my tank are still females from what I can tell. There was no aggression when the male was placed into the tank, they just stayed right by him while he died.

Ugh, I was wanting to order an achiles from this place for when the new tank is done, but sounds like too much BS to deal with when shipping is a fiasco and the livestock dies. Really sorry to hear about the wrasse dying, hopefully there is some sort of livestock gaurantee.

Ya, honestly I would tell you to go elsewhere to get your livestock. There is a 7 day guarantee, but this is also the 2nd time one has died. Though, the first time I pretty much lead to its demise.

Im sure this has already been adressed... but Im not surprized you had trouble when you put in the koralia 8s. IMO they are to powerful for a tank this small, as they out put up to 3500gph each... which is your entire tanks flow plus 1 half again from one head... I personally preffer to use more small ones, rather then a few big ones.

Yes, it most likely is overkill, I will admit, if I could do it over I might choose to get 7's instead. I did have problems at first, but I seem to have figured them out and now am very glad I put them in. I do not feel like I have too much flow, and my fish seem to be enjoying the currents, particularly the tang. I have 3 4's running with the 2 8's as well as my return pump from my sump, so I have multiple points to create random flow.

I also feel that 2000 gph total flow on a 210 is way way too little despite that being the "standard" even for a fowlr tank let alone a reef.

That must be nice.

The Phosban seems to be doing work. I have not had to scrap the glass once since I installed it and before that I would need to scrap it once a week at least. Any size maxijet pump will work just fine, all of them will have to be restricted with the ball valve on the reactor anyway.

I do think it is overkill to an extent. I think that 6's or 7's would be better than the 8's on a 210. But I am still using multiple 4's with my 8's and seem to be having success now that I have them positioned correctly. The fish are loving the currents that's for sure. I don't think it is creating too much current by any means. All my fish are out and about swimming around everywhere all day.
