My Blue Acara growth and development

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Everything is coming along nicely! Love the new set up and fish.
Thank you! Without your help it would be still soaking that driftwood.

Very nice Jexnell Jexnell ! So nice to see someone keeping original pulcher, not the electric blues. One of the prettiest and community friendly cichlid in our hobby.

That was one of major reasons for picking the Blue Acuras. A fish seldom seen here, not too big and can live with other fish. I just hope it al works lobg term that was my goal a forever home for all.

Very beautiful tank and fish

Thank you!

Great looking setup and plenty of activity. It would be awesome if that is the only male .

It's funny how it all worked out. I ended up buying all of the stock the Wet Spot had for these three species. And the whole 1m3f that I wanted in the Acuras.

One small correction... they are acaras, not acuras. Andinoacara pulcher if we get technical. Unfortunately the hump in the fin doesn't really specify the sex of them.

Acaras are great fish but they can get feisty as they grow and sometimes they will mutilate a tetra if the mood strikes them. They will spawn small; I've had females breed at 2". Most acara species are easy going and fairly simple to care for, one of the reasons they've been a lasting staple in the hobby for a century or more. Give them clean water and good food and they'll probably churn out fry in no time.

Thank you for this information on them. I will blame auto correct for the error :)
Have you kept them with plants? If so how are they?

Mine are in with Anubis and Java fern and no issues at all, not sure how they would go with more delicate plants though. I find they are generally very chilled but can get a bit territorial if they breed.
I think you will be happy with the choice you've made.

When I got up this morning them Corys had the tank bottom absolutely spotless.

And thier first water change, the Acaras like to swin in the water current flowing out of the python as it refills20180806_090824.jpg

So I have one nozzle of the FX4 shooting down the back wall, and the other at the surface 20180806_085308.jpg

Very nice setup, I may have missed it in a previous post but how big are the acaras? They look almost fully grown?

They are about 2in long, so a 1/3 of thier final adult size of six inches.
The tetras about 1 inch
The corys about 1.5 inch
