thank you! if you're asking me i dont have a light on his tank, the only light he gets is from the room lights. he swims much more with it a little darker.

That is one of, if not the, nicest carpintis I've seen yet.

Also, it's nice to see the wild form of Etroplus maculatus ... all I seem to find now a days is that reddish man made form.

thanks.... mee too, I mean live, not in pics, that made me fell like making a show specimen out of him...I really wish to grow him upto 1' long which is too rarein captivity.

And maculatus...yes I love these beauties, this is the least colored specimen I've kept, this is the other mac I had was far more colorful, there are some some natural strains that are a lot orange, just like man made strains you get. Their natural color forms include pale brown, bright orange, olive green and yellow, though yellow and olive greens are very common.

whats the diff. between this and a texas???

Mine is H.Carpintis, called as a green texas or pearlscale cichlid. The one tjw.08 has is a H.cyanoguttatus called a texas cichlid.

Very nice fish and top photos! What lighting do you have?

None;) I use a flash from top. and thanks!

Hey tjw.08, that a very slow growth rate 5" in two years or is it stunted?

I don't think I have ever seen such intense blues before on this type of cichlid. Is it from the foods?

Hes a stunner for sure! Would like to see him older and full grown.

i measured him and was a little off...he's almost 7". i was eatimting his age. i bought him as a jd from a friend of a friend he came with a lion fish and a 29gl tank for 50 bucks, that was at the end of last summer and i'm not sure how long they had him kept in that tank. so yeah i guess it's very possible that his growth was stunted. he doesnt eat very well because he is soooo fussy. he wont eat any prepared foods. what can i do to maybe kick in a growth spurt?

tjw.08 - your fish is nice too but I was asking the OP specifically.

Looks like that top down flash method produces some beaut shots. My sister is into photography so I'll have to hassle her to add a remote flash to her kit :P

I got a little carpinte very similar to your "Old" shot you linked too, he's about 1.5" at the moment. Hope mine turns out like yours when he gets bigger!

haha I knew there was a lil error somewhere. He should eat pellets, coz I have never heard a texas being fussy, try some bigger pellets. And water changes are really neccary if you want to grow your fishes fast.

It really does....moreover it gives a very natural touch unlike front flash. I still lack a good lens, else the pics would have been even better.

Even I am very eager to grow him fast.
The blue is not from foods....Angle of light makes a difference, if the light falls from top on the pearls they reflect blue color, from front then green. In previous pictures I used flash from top. Heres a pic to show you the difference, I used flash from front...
