My convict layed eggs. She's an inch long.

I'm pretty sure they will be fine. There are lots of rocks to provide hiding places. And he stops after awhile.

I've had two male convicts for awhile now (one is three inches the other is about 6/6.5) and bought a female about a week ago. I didn't expect them to spawn since she is only an inch long but they did. Her and the big guy. I watched them clean the stump and knew what was coming, shortly after she laid her eggs and he fertilized them. Does anyone have any advice? They are in a community tank right now and I was thinking about putting the fry into there own 20 gallon until they are about an inch. I'm sorry I have no pics, I broke my camera a little while back. Also can I feed them flake food if I grind it up small enough?

Placing the fry in a 20 gallon growout will be perfect, knowing that they can breed 2-3 times a month..........The fry reach 1 inch within 2 months..Usually baby brine shrimp is the food source choice for fish under 2 months old...The protein in the BBS is super for the young growing bodies........

She seems to have moved the eggs for some reason.

Mine did that too on her first batch right before they hatched. If you can't see the eggs or fry, it's possible she has wigglers buried just under the sand. You can usually tell where by watching her. She'll go back and look at the spot fairly often.

I have gravel as a substrate. Large gravel. She moved them to a different spot on the fake stump.

I was surprised to see that my one inch convicts bred as well. I got them to check if my tank was cycled and before i knew it there were eggs. The babies hatched and are about two weeks now. I knew nothig about convicts except for they bred, its crazy that they can breed so young and be good parents the first try.

Well the eggs seem to have disappeared and there are no fry. I'm guessing one of my other fish got them or the female killed them when she moved them. I want to move them into my 40 gallon but can't catch them in my tank. There are to many hiding spots and they are to fast.

hey whats up every one congrats on ur first batch i have a a pair of cons my self and they also had a few fry i would say any where from 50-80 fry my question is will they continue to breed if i dont remove there first batch of fry or will they stop they are in a 30gl tank

After about a 4-6 weeks they will get ready to breed again. You can tell they are ready to go again when they start eating the current batch. If you don't take the fry out before then they will eat or kill all of them. If you take the fry out sooner, they should be ready to breed again in around 2 weeks from that time.
