whats up guys well my fry are doing pretty good and i noticed that the female con is behind a rock hiding thats where she spawned the first time shes there all the time male convict is with the fry at all time she only comes out to eat and she very colorful belly is really red fins are blue green and yellow just like the first time do u guys think she is laying eggs again

Not sure she would be laying again yet. Keep us posted if she does. From what I've read they won't lay a new batch of eggs as long as the current batch of fry are still being protected. Would be interesting if they do.

Has the male attacked her at all? Odd that she isn't sharing in defending the fry with him.

Sorry about that.

I woke up this morning to about 100 eggs in the same spot as last time. The fry are only about 2 weeks and the parents have totally forgotten about them. I was amazed how many eggs it was for such a small female.

Didn't respond to this one because it honestly just confuses me a bit. You said before that the previous batch of eggs disappeared with no sign of fry.

Well the eggs seem to have disappeared and there are no fry. I'm guessing one of my other fish got them or the female killed them when she moved them.

But above you are saying that the previous batch of fry are 2 weeks old and the parents have forgotten about them. Or did you mean the previous eggs have only been gone for 2 weeks and you're surprised the parents have forgotten about them already?

For some reason my male decided to turn on the female last night. Tore her tail and was keeping her locked up in a corner. Every time she moved he was back on her again. :screwy:

I figured he'd probably end up killing her (either directly or from stress) so I thought I'd show him what it's like to be picked on. I took him out and put him in the 55g with the 5" JD Male and 3.5" Female (Con is only 2.5" or so). After about an hour of the JDs chasing him around and nipping, I stuck him back in with the mom and fry and the mom started beating the crap out of him too. :ROFL:Apparently they settled it overnight cause they're swimming around like buddies again. :grinno:

I have seen the male chase her in to the coener where the rock cave is. Not sure what is going on with them he really doesn't let her come out

Sounds similar. Take him out and see if she moves to start protecting the fry. Keep him out of there for 10 or 20 minutes and let her get acclimated to things without him. Then put him back in and they will probably get along again. That's worked twice for me now, once on each batch of fry mine have had.

Edit: Make your own thread too so we can stop trampling Younglin. :grinno:

Okay here is what happened. They had there first batch and when they turned into wrigglers she moved them. I thought they had been eaten or something but then saw the fry swimming around a few days later. Then the fry disappeared. No idea why. They laid another batch which have also disappeared now that they are wrigglers. if they reappear as fry I'm going to suck them out and raise them myself.

Ahh, ok, I get it now. :) I do know they will bury the wrigglers sometimes to protect them, but they may have eaten them as well. Same on the fry from your first batch. Hope you get to keep some this round. :) You can siphon them out when you spot free swimmers, but you'll have to keep on top of feeding them a few times a day. Sometimes the parents just need a couple batches to get the hang of it.
