A simple rinse will not kill anything living on the plants. Leeches, snails, viruses, bacteria, and so many unwanted things can end up in your tank unless properly cleaned. They should also be placed in a fish-less tank for many weeks to ensure there is nothing left on them.

I'd recommend cleaning plants with potassium permanganate. I forget the mix, but you add some to water in a bucket and soak the plants in it for a few minutes. Potassium permanganate can be found in Sears in the appliance section.
your right, what i ment to say, but failed to, is that i used a rinse bought from LFS i dont rememeber what it was, but something is needed to clean not just water.

i wasn't worried about snails, and leaches were clearly not in the water, but when it comes to viruses and bacteria how would you know they exist or not after leaving them in a fishless tank for many weeks as they were invisible then and will still be? besides, aren't viruses and bacteria ever present even in healthy aquriums? its the fishes health and vitaliy that protect it. am i being too lax on the subject or could you be too careful? i'm not attacking you, just a healthy question i hope.;)

Wow!! You have come A LONG WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean A LONG WAY!!! Nice man!

Tank looks much better with the sand. You and Li need to go in together on some Windex!
