you honestly may have just converted me to turning my 30G into a convict tank. This thread is an inspiration, and is panning out similiarly to my Keyholes and Blue Acaras, who are great fun to breed, with some nice little fry. I look forward to seeing these growing. Can I request that you post pics maybe every 3 days for the first 3 weeks, and then maybe every week after that? I love seeing them slowly evolve into replicates of their parents, it's amazing.

Thanks very much for sharing this :D

Do it! I think Convicts get overlooked because they are so common. They are a fun fish to watch, they are hardy, social, and they breed very easily!!

I think they are cool looking as well, but again they are common-place so they arent really unique.

I plan on taking pics every three days, until the pair decide to spawn again, then I will get rid of all but a couple of them, maybe a male and a female, to tract how they develop

Glad you are enjoying the thread

Aloha, I have convict&flowerhorn together and now they've bred. In the local creek the convicts have established themselves and that's where I get mine. I will post more pics of fry when they are bigger.

There are around 40 fry left, I will get some more pics up soon

Bummer update, my male snapped....

He ate a majority of the fry, and beat up the large female pretty bad, her caudal fin was destroyed, almost to the base of it.

I believe he was ready to spawn again and she was still caring for the fry.

I did not witness any of the violence, I was at work and came home and she was hiding behind the filter oulet, completely greyed out and beat. She stayed up there for about 48 hrs.

The male is getting along with her fine now, and she has started to eat again.

Here's hoping to a full recovery
