Yes, if you buy construction grade wood it's crazy cheap, it's also often complete crap
. OK, you can successfully build a stand out of it, heck people build houses out of it, but it's the lowest dregs of the tree, any worse and it's firewood. You might get lucky and get good stuff, but often it will not be properly dried and contain unstable juvenile wood from around the pith of the tree, or even the actual pith, pockets of sap, big knots etc. Thats almost gauranteed to warp or twist as the timber dries out more - after you have built your stand.
Now if you are just constructing a stand for your fish room it's probably not a problem, it will hold still hold your tank up. But if you are making a piece of furniture, pay a bit more and get some decent wood to work with.
