Yes, if you buy construction grade wood it's crazy cheap, it's also often complete crap :(. OK, you can successfully build a stand out of it, heck people build houses out of it, but it's the lowest dregs of the tree, any worse and it's firewood. You might get lucky and get good stuff, but often it will not be properly dried and contain unstable juvenile wood from around the pith of the tree, or even the actual pith, pockets of sap, big knots etc. Thats almost gauranteed to warp or twist as the timber dries out more - after you have built your stand.

Now if you are just constructing a stand for your fish room it's probably not a problem, it will hold still hold your tank up. But if you are making a piece of furniture, pay a bit more and get some decent wood to work with. :)

Cheers

Ian

i'm just gonna PM them to the people who helped me out

With all the thousands of answers you've gotton over the last couple months, this is a great way to say thanks to all that have helped you. It is unbelieveable that you will not take a couple of minutes to post pics in your thread.

It's a personal choice to post pics or not... if your looking through these threads stricky for photos... then don't read the thread and just click on the paper clip on the main thread page.. if it shows you what you want to see then great if not ... then move on and keep your opinions to yourself... DIY is not about flaming people due to the fact that you or others have made that person shy about showing you their work after they have started to tell you what they are doing and how they are doing it. If they feel comfortable enough to show it then they will ... if not.. do it for yourself and show who ever you want!

This whole thread has become an embarassment to DIY and not because of the person who started it but the people whom insist on causing problems where they don't need to be. This is SUPPOSED TO BE a safe place which encourages it's members to be proud of their projects which in turn will lead to people WANTING to show them off. For those who have problems with their projects... they will live and learn from their mistakes for those who don't have any problems with their projects .... Good on ya and congrats for being proud of something that you have taken the time and effort to do for yourself. Cost is based on learning what something is worth TO YOU and no one else, since you are building a unique item it can cost as much or as little as YOU are willing to spend on it.

I've seen plenty of DIY projects on here which have recieved plenty of praise but honestly I wouldn't pay a single penny for it because it doesn't suit my needs or taste... but I do give credit for someone taking the time and effort to do it themselves... or buying something pre-fab because thats what they feel they need to do for their own personal reasons.

Those who can do .. those who can't .. tell everyone else about what they would do if they had the chance to do it.

how can we give credit to the fact that he said he built a stand? after racking up thousands of posts in a matter of a couple months asking some of the most basic things over and over has given most of us a sense that he can barely tie his shoes by himself, so when he posts pics of a couple of boards on the ground and then a day or 2 later says how he has built a really nice stand we would like to see it. i do agree i shouldnt have ripped on him about how much the wood cost and i appologize for that, but alot of us have been more than patient with him and his barage of questions, and would like to atleast see if he has learned anything at all. it would be nice to see him give back to MFK by maybe trying to answer other people questions for once, and right now the easiet way for him to do that would to atleast show his wonderfull stand.
