anybody ever have much success with a wire mesh trap like that for crawfish?? is there a better design for fish? PM me!

Yep, Midnight made a simple trap and caught a bazillion cool fish with it. I made two crawfish traps and both were stolen within a week. The first one dissappeared within 24 hours.

I use a single sheet of mesh but roll it into a 45cm diameter cylinder so there are far less joins to make and the trap is ALWAYS right side up. :) I stick on two mesh funnels at each end and it is complete!! Actually I use a length of copper wire as thread to SEW the ends on and close the single join seam. You dont need to do this but I use many fish traps at once so it makes for very efficent transport and storage as I can undo and lay them all flat. I do pre-make the funnels which also stack. It takes me 2-3 minutes to make and bait a trap.

Whatever trap you use, try to have the mouths pointing parrallel with the water current not at right angles. Watch the bottom carefully and placing traps near likely fish cover or understanding the behaviour and habbits of the fish species you target will greatly improve your successes/

Cool fish trap

Nope, not from those two traps on the second page. Both were stolen in record time. One in less than 24 hours and the other was gone before a week had passed. That was before I bought my canoe. Now I paddle to remote areas and do a lot of netting. It is far more interesting and the variety is better than ten fold.

I bought two rolls of the mesh to make more but haven't had the interest lately.

How about if we beg and plead????

Please

 I am going to need a bunch of help if I am going to keep up with midnight.

Not really, just more bait. I bet you can keep 'em alive longer .
