my DIY food

It was frozen enough this morning! Fish all took it besides my sun cats who don't eat much at all and my salvini who just didn't come out at all this morning.

Every other fish loved it, even my 10" Senegal LOVED it. In fact, i don't think i gave them enough, they are still all looking for some more.

If i had to do it again, i'd probably leave the bloodworms out since they don't all liquidize and therefore don't bond completely, and i also would have make the flats a little bit thicker, it seems to be too thin at the opening.

the ice tray idea would prolly work only downfall is thats a decent ammount of food make sure you have enough fish to eat it all. did the leopard cten eat it X24?

Ya, the cten took the chunk i dropped in and swam around with it in his mouth until it got stolen by the other fish. I think if i break it into some bite size chunks he'll get his share of it easily.

ya figured, those sun cats will get use to it eventually mine are pigs and have grown about two inches and put on a huge amount of girth off my food in about 2 months

One of my sun cats that i got at 3" eats but my large 9-10"er i rarely see him eat anything.

I dont think that would be a problem... only thing is that my cats would probably swallow the whole thing.

Gelatin keeps it together when you put it in the tank.

You could use normal flake food as a binder, I use it when making up beef heart mixes for the discus. Just an idea

Sounds awsome... Is it necessary to add the vegies and the V8..? We don't ge V8 here.. And does the food sink ? Can i add shrimp and beefheart in the mix at the same time ?

You don't need the veggies, but most fish will benefit from some. The V8 just helps it blend easier, you could use tomato juice or just something along those lines. The food does sink and the only reason i didn't blend everything at once is so that the blender would have an easier job.

The only requirments of this recipe is to include foods that are good for the fish, and that you add the right amount of gelatin for it.

You could freeze it without the gelatin, but it really is the best binder i've found as the food doesn't hardly come apart at all while it is in the aquarium water unless a fish bites it.
