My DIY stand for 150 gallon tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My state of the art filtration system. So many people doubt the ability of a sponge filter. I have 3 of these running in the big tank, and it's the only means of filtration. The only thing it doesn't do is pick up the big pieces of garbage. But then again, that's why we do water changes. It's cheap, easy to clean, and does the job.

Nice stand. Where do you live in Taiwan?
I remember you. You live in Taichung. I had a thread asking about fishermen in Taiwan. You said that fishing is not big here. It sure isn't. I had problems trying to get meds for fish here also. Apparently, you have to see a vet just to get meds here. What a bunch of idiots here. Try taking a 2 foot asian aro to a vet. Anyways, I'm in Taipei, doing what all the other native English speakers here do. I teach English.

Nice tank, fish and hotties! Thanks for the pics. I've decided I'm moving to Taiwan!

thanks for the pics and write up sauce. great job with only hand tools and a drill. your stand leads me to a question - do you need the center support in the back? thanks.

The center support in the back is not really to support the weight load. It makes the stand more sturdy and not wobbly. The actual weight load sits on the four corners. A good example of this is when people put their tanks on cinder blocks.

How are you having problems finding meds? Go to one of the fish streets and the stores there should be able to help you with what you need. I use one guy here who gets everything I need. I just call and order. He has even been to my house a few times to deliver stuff. I try to stay away from the chain store fish outlets.

I'm surprised you haven't run into that issue here. So, a couple months ago, I went to the LFS for some aquarium salt. I couldn't find any, so I asked for it. The guy said that salt is an old school thing. No one uses salt anymore. It's a thing of the past. We have "modern" meds now. I was thinking :screwy:. Then a couple weeks after that incident, I went to buy their "modern" meds. I was then informed that, we are no longer able to sell meds. You must visit the vet to get fish meds. I asked the guy, don't you think this is ridiculous? His reply was, "No, when we get sick, we visit the doctor, why shouldn't our fish?" :screwy: Another incident, I went to go get hydrogen peroxide for myself, for a simple little cut. The pharmacy said, "No, we don't carry hydrogen peroxide. It's a thing of the past. No one uses hydrogen peroxide anymore. We have more "modern" meds." Apparently, they have a wierd concept of medication here. Haven't you ever noticed that when people here have the first signs of a cold, they see the doctor and stuff themselves with "modern" meds. Then, afterwards, they run around and don't need rest because the doctor just stuffed them with "modern" meds. So, why bother resting. The medicine will make the cold go away. I guess they don't know that there is no cure for the common cold. :screwy:
