. . .And I have no idea how to stock it. I was going to be getting a 75 gallon tank from my friend, but instead my uncle gave me a much better deal. He has 96"x36"x36" (Little over 500 gal) tank that he hasn't used in over a year, and he will give it to me as long as I take it from his house.

It's going to be a bit of a chore to get in my house but once it's set up, I have no idea what to stock it with. Can anyone give me some stocking suggestions as I am absolutely stumped?

Depends on your personal taste... if you like a lot of color and movement, go for an african cichlid tank. If you like a talking point fish, get a pair of jags or dovii, maybe even a pbass too. I've always thought arowana are pretty 'classy' looking. If you like fish that interact with you more, get oscars and various SA cichlids.
Just browse the media threads in each forum and see what species suit you best.
Yeah those dimensions are a little over 500 gallons, so you have way more options than a lot of people!

if it were me personally id get a few peacock bass an arowana and some larger polypterus species. thats just me

Wow, I wish something like this would happen to me...I'd LOVE to get a 500g for free lol...the stocking possibilities are almost endless...you could get rays, peacock bass, arowanas, armatus, doviis, buttikoferis, large clown knives, large polys, shovelnose catfish, gars, piranhas, datnoids etc etc etc

Load it up with med size killers. Maybe a small ray or 2, bass pike, black Aro, go nuts do what you want. Can do cichlids, ca,sa or African ,dats would be cool.

I'd say you are pretty open. These are some you could probably keep for life depending on species.

I'd go with rays, a black ghost knife, a few albino oscars, and mby a pair of ebjds! The possibilities are endless!!!!!! Your getting me so excited' lol. Now my real question. Are you tatting with small fish and letting them grow, or getting adult fish?

So sad seeing so many people suggesting rays. Sadly illegal here in the Lone Star State. :/ So are Piranha.

I'm planning on buying small fish and letting them grow out.

I've been toying with the idea of getting an Aro and some larger cichlids, maybe even some flagtails. Luckily I'm in no rush to get it stocked, I'm rather patient.
