The Lovely RHT pair:

It’s really interesting watching the behavior change in the RHT as they’ve really hit maturity the last 2 months. Gone are the days of all 6 shoaling together. Now they are all focused on defending their own territory. That’s what happens with them in nature (juveniles shoaling, adults paired off) so it’s all good. I think I may have 5 males and just 1 female…. Which isn’t great lol.

Luckily it’s all just bickering so I’m not worried any are actually going to hurt the others. Plenty of room in the tank for everyone

Spotlight Saturday for my least talked about fish in the 125:

My lone male apistogramma agassizii “double red”. Dude is only 2 inches long but runs with the big boys. Nobody in the tank pays him any kind and his always comes out if he sees me approach the tank

So I had some fun dealing with a cracked 2x4 on my new stand. It probably stemmed from a small crack from adding a screw and the stand being on unlevel ground.

After a stressful week with the crack, I was able to replace the 2x4 and move the tank to more level ground. Everything seems all good. Stand isn’t quite as even in height as it was (everything is within 1/16 of an inch [29 12/16 to 29 13/16 tall]), but is overall more level because of where it now sits.

Spawn attempt #3 was a failure. Male ate all the eggs ?

While it would be cool if these guys could successfully raise fry, I don’t think it’s happening with this layout. Maybe after I switch things up in a few months things could be different….

RHT pair number 2 has formed and may be laying eggs as soon as today!

The females egg tube is fully down so I’ll be checking in periodically to see if she has laid or not yet.

So you ended up with more than 1 female after all? Good for you!
I never mentioned this but about 2 weeks ago I started to notice that my smallest and most colorful RHT was acting like it was pairing up with my biggest RHT. This was confirmed a few days ago when she dropped her eggs tube.

I always thought it was a male because she has always had the most color and was fairly feisty. I'm happy to that I was wrong though! 2 pairs were the goal from the 6 I had.

Shoutout to these troopers for surviving a 30 hr power outage. I put battery powered aerators on and wrapped the tanks up in blankets/towels, and so far there are no casualties!

The 75 got down to 68 degrees and the 125 was down to 67. After two hours of power, the 75 is up to 70 degrees and the 125 is up to 67.5
