My fish room renovation project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, its starting. I'm trying to get the village out of my hair prior to starting my projects actual construction but I've already cut 2/3 of the lumber to length to build my 3 double stack 75 gallon stands. All I need is to prep a double stack 55 gallon stand, another 100/125 gallon stack and the 265 gallon stand and then its sanding, finishing, screwing etc. Here is my proposed layout.

We just got one of the two major sumps we will need I started a thread over here:

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...DIY-AUTOMATIC-WATER-CHANGE-SYSTEM.&highlight=

That is for the 265, the super sump is half built but still needs baffles and a sock rack etc.

At any rate I'm under pressure to accelerate this project in a major way because I picked up a few unexpected monster fish at a steel from a friend in need. I now have 1 arrowana and 4 orino p-bass. They will get the 265 allong with my bichirs, severum, and monos for the time being once it is setup. I know I know, you want pictures... Well I feel ashamed of their current livng conditions so I can't photo graph them. You'll get photos soon enough.

Ok, great and horrible news... Well we finally finished the 265 stand, it was an interesting build that I'll detail at a later time. When moving the 265 down stairs one end was dropped on some concrete steps crusing my hand on one side and cracking the frame on the other:

The galss was apparently uneffected...
here is the tank on the stand as we built the wall around it:

There was a small interior chip in the glass that was somewhat nominal, I siliconed it:

During the test fill it leaked... So we drained it removed the old inner silicone and redid that, finishing just moments ago.

I haven't ever used silicone in tanks before. If there are further issues I'll start another thread on the DIY tank builders forums about my issues. We will see, any one think the broken frame is a major issue?? Any thoughts on how to fix?

Congrats on getting your house! Guess I'm behind the times--thought you were still in your parents' basement. Sorry to hear you dropped that tank. Hope your hand is OK. You are an avid fishkeeper! Your fish room is going to be awesome when you get done with it.

Thanks, lol don't worry not many people have been commenting on the thread for a while. I think it was the absence of photos, picture seem to draw more people into stuff and make it more than just talk. My fingers still hurt and are swollen but I'm just happy they aren't broken. I'm still trying to resolve some sickness issues in those fish I got several months ago:

illness is so frustrating but also exciting because I feel like I'm always learning.

PICTURES AND UPDATES!!!
So I have my fish spread out into 3 populations currently... You've seen the first two, basically my surviving stock from that original outbreak, what is at my house and what is still at my parents house. Well if you follow any of my other threads(and a few lesser posts on this one a while ago) you'd have seen that I was having issue with some new acquisitions that were and still are very sick. Any way I built a 75 stack last night and consolidated the fish with the aspiration of kicking this outbreak in the but once and for all then integrating them with the rest of my populations as I construct the fish room.

Wooahhh one of the first threads I have read from A-Z, Good job!! you have scared me but starting my fish room lets hope I don't end up sleeping in there also!! ikkeeeiessss

Sorry to hear about your stand! should be fine but could always add some liquid nails to the crack but it did not seem very deep?

Do you find your tier stands to be firm? I have some 180G 3tier stands and tanks coming bit worried?!?

Nice job but cant wait to see this one finished the basement came out really good, Hope all goes well!

Yeah I find the 2 tier stands are rock solid. I just bought pine and used regular wood screws. So far so good!!! Put water in the 265 last night and this morning it was still holding water! Tonight we drain and move the 265 in place and set it up and get it running with filter and all so that this weekend we can drop in a few fish!!!

Sad news. The 265 leaked again :( So we are going to do a complete rebuild of the tank but that won't happen prior to the rest of the fish room going up as previously planned. Assuming my Kens order gets here tomorrow morning... oh the disappointment is overwhelming.
