My gar broke its back help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The gar can’t even go up for a gulp of air before the arowana attacks it. I need help. What should I do?

my RTG arowana isn’t making it easy for the gar to heal up. It keeps attacking it, what do I do? I only realised that it started attacking my gar this week and that’s how my gar probably broke it’s back escaping it. My arowana is only around 9-10 inches in the 6 foot tank, so it has more than enough space. How can I ease its aggression?
In all honesty, your tank is not as big as you may think it is. Size is not everything with your arowana, especially concerning fish that seek to define their own territories like your aro.

You can add things to break line of sight, divide them out, move an aggressor, or add dithers if you do not have them already.

I had a Jardini at 6 inches try and kill everything in a 240 including Amazon cats that were big enough to eat it. Sometimes the size of a fish doesn't matter as much as you may think, and the fish may think it its entitled to more.

Your best option is to divide them somehow with a physical barrier. Otherwise your run the very real likelihood of losing your gar

Yeah, ik my tank isn’t considered big as compared to many peoples tanks in this forum, but I thought it is big enough for my aro now as it’s juvenile. If I divide the tank, would the arowana stop attacking the gar in the future if I remove the divider again?

The Arowana will continue to harass the Gar.

Damnnn it. I’ll go try and get a divider by this or next week. If only I could get another tank to allow the gar to recover, but I’m only 15 and costs of living in Singapore are really high. ?

Your best bet if that is the case may be to get a basket of some sort and place the gar in there, and have that at the top of the tank like a lot of people and myself do when our stingrays have pups
