My High Back Golden Arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no problem, what you do is just to get a piece of acrylic plastic or similar, get it cut to fit your tank and just place it on top of the glass. This way you dont need the hassle of emty the tank. Once your aro hits, 35-40 cm, you can just take it out and have your black base back. The idea with the WTT is to have the level of shine rise, once you have achived that, put it in black background tank for gold intensity. good luck with your goldie ;-)

this is my tank, re-done in the above way. (it was also black base). I'm getting my crossback next month....

Nice looking tank you got there,Thanks for the info.I never knew what the black tank was for.
What size are you getting it at?
If it is a juvenile make sure that the portion outside the pupil of the eye is yellow if red chances are not an Xback. Also There are many base colours pink(very common),green, blue, silver and gold.GO for the yellow gold base its the best,You might have put in a little more $$ But its worth it.Btw Post some pics of it

Thank you bro,Its in a 20 gallon now in a month its going to be in a 3x1.5x1.5(FEET){LXBxH}.Once it reaches 8-10".Its goin in to a 4X2x2.
Once it reaches 24" then into a 6X2X2.
I cant wait for it to reach that much!!:swear::cry:

Yes, choosing a crossback is definitely not easy these days with the market flooded by wtt highbacks with extremely high shine as juvenile. The eye color as you said can give you a hint, but more importantly you need to look at how well the so called pearl scales have developed. RTG and highbacks don't develop full pearls even going through wtt.

I'm looking for a gold based xback, would love to get a gold head level fish, but not sure if I can afford it :-)

Pearl scales...Yes thats true thats the best way,But do they get it at the juvenile stage?About the Golden Head,Does it have 6 level shine or 5th with a golden head?

Is this your first Asian aro? Highback RTG will be a very nice fish, getting better looking as it matures. How is the market for these fish in India?

Nope note my first asian arowana i was keeping on selling arowana's so i could buy this.
I have had 2 silvers,1st one died(lack of experience) then got a baby jardini. Then somehow got some money and got cheated by a guy here buyimg RTG which turned out to be green. Then i have had 2 HB golden,1 claimed GH,1 red(2) which i all sold. This is a HB gold,But it looks like HBRTG though??
In India as far as my knowledge goes the north people have just started to buy asian aro's and down south(kerala ,Andra Pradesh) Very few have asian Arowana's.In kerala(where i live) everyone buys only RTG as it is affordable. No other varieties of asian arowana's are easily available. Not to mention there is only LFS which keep Asia arowana in their stock which is RTG that too one piece per month.People here dont have the mentality to spend so much money for fish,There are a lot of silvers and jardini(called pearl arowana here)

Also, give me an honest reply...My friend who comes to see my arowana's regularly(owns RTG and jardini) told me that this HB is not of quality compared to the other aro's i've had.Do you think so? whatever be it i am not selling this,i am gonna grow it.

This one does look more like a HBRTG than a HB Golden to my rookie eyes as well but you will never know for sure since it still too small. Does it come with a certificate as well?

not sure what you guys mean by HBRTG and HB Golden? As far as I know there is only two variaties (pure breed) golden aros and they are the RTG and Xback. HB RTG is supposed to mean highback RTG meaning that they have shine reaching 5th level as supposed to cassic RTG that only have shine up to the 4th. These HB RTG probably have some Xback blood in them making this possible. As to HB Gold, I dont know what you are refering to? Goldhead Xback would definetly have 6th level shine, and have most likely been through extensive WTT to get that gold head look. The gold heads that retain this in a darker environment is very good quality fish.
