My High Back Golden Arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My bad on the name, I just copied from my cert. But I am not wrong abt them being essentially the same fish. What I know is not from wiki where it writes indonesia as the first farms when in fact Singapore was the first to successfully breed Asian Aros in 1969. Truth is there wasn't a difference between RTG and XB before the 90s. What you bought then was a golden aro. Believe it or not it's up to u guys. But I have seen XB fail to fully clear 5th lvl and RTGs that cross 6th almost completely, rare no doubt but not unheard of. U will nv see a PDR reach the lvl of a BD even though they are both P13.

Hi, I'm not questioning you about who was first of captive breading of the arowanas, what I'm saying is that RTG is a originally found wild in Indnesia, while the Xback is originally found wild in the rivers of Malaysia. They are definetly not the same fish if we are talking about the wild species. Then as you say when the farms started to bread these aros in the late sixties there was no destinction between RTG and Xback, they where just "gold aros". By mixing these two subvarities of arowana in the same pond, you got cross breeding and the gene pool may have been mixed between RTG and Xback resulting in diffrent level of shine depending on genes.

Hey, we are all speculating here, but the information that RTG native from Indonesia and Xback from Malayisa is clearly written in the book "Millennium Dragon" published by Dragon Fish Industries.

So its a high back red tail gold
Most HBRTG are just RTG that have been WTT

Also Whenever im not around,It rests between the suction of the filter and the bottom of the tank i.e the gap.
When it sees me it quickly comes and swims on the surface. This has been going for 4 days now? What does this behavior mean/show?

This is not WTT. As i explained to u before. WTT is about making the surroundings whiter with bright lights on a white background. Think abt it this way, when u shine white light on white paper, doesn't it look whiter? In a clear tank, u are doing neither, the creamy white wall behind the tank is not doing anything at all. Ideally, it should be white 5 sided, which is why most young aros are raised in white fgts rather then tanks. Ideally, at this age u want to keep it in a much bigger tank too as this is their fastest growing stage. Small tanks limits their growth. They will grow length until abt 12" then start to put on height. This happens within 6 mths. Also, for aros as young as urs, they are usually kept with low water lvl to avoid "drop tail" which is a common problem when small aros are kept in a high dept of water.

Regarding hiding in the corner, its quite common for aros which are uncomfortable with their surroundings. Aros normally swim round and round all the time once stable.
