Looks like a washed out LMB probably due to poor water quality and poor diet. Putting a 6" gar in with a 12" LMB isn't the best Idea. It might take only a matter of seconds or minuets before you see a LMB with a belly full of gar. LMB will eat any fish that will fit in their mouths and sometimes those that don't.

exacty what Gator said, poor diet and water conditions. feed your LMB different stuff, minnows, insects, and craws and shrimp because they have the most protein. I feed my 2 Black Crappie everyday and since they moved in with me 1 month ago theyve both grown at least 1 inch. Just keep a rotating diet. Dont feed it the same stuff because your fish loses energy catching feeders because they dont offer much protein for him to sustain a healthy diet. Just keep trying new food ideas and eventually you will find what your bass wants the most.

I had a 3.5" lmb and it showed colors from the moment I caught him. I started mine off in 75 gallons and he thrived. For a year he was with the small Oscar in my Avatar and they both grew very well. He may be stressing due to the small tank, you should upgrade yesturday and if he has tankmates I would definetly not risk it.

3 quick things wrong with this. 1 thing Is in most states you cannot net gamefish till they are a certain size in fact netting of game fish is usually illegal. 2nd is the tank cycled for 72hours? What's that mean? U let the tank run for 2 days? Maybe that's why he is washed out. What's the tank temperature? 3rd thing is goldfish are the absolute worst foos choice ever. Why would u take a fish that u know grows quick knowing u don't have a tank suitable. He is as long as the tank is wide. I love how everyone on the forum is "upgrading soon" I "planned on upgrading". Those are lies vuz we all know if we could get a larger tank it would been done already. Poor fish

Just thought I would add, it is against the law in most states to throw your fish back once it gets too big, so plan ahead and be responsible with the fish you keep. If you cannot afford to keep that fish then post it on the marketplace ASAP and I am sure someone will help you out...

I think you have a LMB there and once you get the tank right it should color up. You should be looking into a very large tank very soon for that fish! Once you get the fish in the right setup I am sure you will be happy with the results.

Good Luck!

Bumpylemon, netting of game fish is usually legal if you attain the correct paperwork from your local DNR, and follow the netting regulations already set in place. I know it is in my state, and my state is really tight when it comes to those sorts of things.

Slightly off topic, I just wanted to clarify.

its illegal most everywhere...i know its illegal in mass

and its illegal in NC where he is

Manner of Taking
" Inland game fish may be taken only with a hook and line."

Manner of Taking
"Game fish incidentally taken with nets or traps, while capturing
bait, must not be harmed and must be released immediately."

granted you can get special permits....but lets not get all technical he doesnt have that license nor do alot of people...most of these licenses are educational and scientifical license...people that are into natives please join
NANFA....over there we can help everyone out better
