and am guessing the people saying "he got what was comin to him" have never had to deal w/ not bieng able to get a fish they can PROPERLY care for, because someone else is a retard. "
he did know the fish were illegal. and he did sell them to a total stranger, in his store no less. he took a calculated risk and got burned. not that I agree with the law. but the law IS the law.

if you're going to deal in illegals (whether it be fish, or whatever), only deal with people you trust, and keep it behind closed doors.

I was talking to my LFS guy about piranha (I used to keep them when I lived in Tenn), he told me he knows people locally that order them off the internet. I'd make the 7 hour drive to Tenn, if I wanted some bad enough.

of course, if me as a private citizen ever got caught in posession of a piranha, I'd simply say that I bought a red belly pacu at petsmart in orlando. and stick to the story.

I'm glad for the Laws, I don't want to give up our native fish.

I too am a little curious as to why he would show a new customer an illegal fish (if this is true, sounds like he is flagrantly defying the Law). Well I say education is expensive, hopefully he leaned something one way or the other (since he's on a watch list now, I hope it's not the other).

The Fish & Game people aren't stupid and your the one in possession, so... I don't think they're going to believe your transformation story ;) (who drives to Orlando to buy a Pacu when you have the BIGGEST distributor so close by... WallyWorld ).

I bought a pacu. it must've been their mistake. its out of town, because i used to live there, and can be vague about the specific location.

of course, if I kept illegal fish, I wouldn't be blabbing about it in public.

lol dam joe you took so long to post lol i was waiting to see what u had to say before i said anything lol

now back on track.... i don't feel to bad for the guy like it has been said LAWS are laws u are more then welcome to bend them all u want but if u break them be ready to pay the price.

you also might want to watch your back on this one.... assuming u don't have anything you shouldn't then you should be fine. that is if you didn't say put traceable money down on said rays. but i wouldn't be suprized if fish and game showed up at your place so i think whoever said if u got anything u shouldn't they might need a vaca. and SOON

:banhim:i think the drug refrence should be removed NOW! and am not agaisnt a ban of said refrencie!!!!!!!!!!!not cause you disagree but cause your a retard!!!!!!!!!!:banhim:
and I disagree with you? so you are speculating that the owner of a fish store (for over 30 years) didn't know he was dealing in illegal fish?

he knew it was illegal and did it anyway. I don't believe it should be illegal, but "don't commit the crime if you can't do the time".

I completely agree! I'm not getting into the whole invasive species/ban thing, because I'm sure people who have read my posts on that know my viewpoint.

Just because they can take care of the fish doesn't mean a damn thing. Hey, I have a great job, provide for my family, pay taxes, etc... can I start smoking marijuana? Please - I'm a good guy, can't I circumvent a little law this one time?! :screwy:

Laws are laws. If you don't agree with them, fight the legality of them. Don't break them and cry about it after you get caught!

I'm heading out to meet some friends for a beer, anyway.

have fun, and I hope your LFS gets off easy.

seriously, it is a ridicuous law. especially in Cali. NoCal is too cold for piranha to live wild, and SoCal is too polluted for any fish to live wild.

:banhim:another drug refference!:banhim:

I wouldn't worry too much. The fish and game aren't worried about the small people. The worst you can probably expect is for them to confiscate the fish you purchased that are illegal. I worked doing raids for 18 years (not for F&G). You can always use the defense that you do not know what is illegal in your area, and you figured if he was selling/getting them, they were okay to buy.
