My little Gts growth so far

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Outstanding color. I think GT's must have been inbred to much in the states. All the really nice ones I see are over sees. They remind me of the ones I would see 15-20 years ago here.

That dorsal makes him look like a super saiyan lol he's the best I've seen on here I reckon. I'm growing out a small one too hope it turns out like yours

Thanks for the comments guys. Starting to stress a bit tho coz he doesn't seem to be growing as fast as other peoples, he is growing though I Spose so maybe I'm just worrying about nothing. He was one of the smaller ones in the tank at time of purchase though but easily had the best colour and finnage so maybe he just not destined to be one of those 10 inch monsters that you see. Either way will keep continuing to pump the water changes and quality food into him and see how he goes. At least he looks awesome lol

I never had a gt but from ive read slow growth was kind of normal. If hes eating i wouldnt wory

Yea they are slow growing from pretty much everything I've read. Id never grown one from a youngn before and the one I had when I was a kid I bought him at 6 inches so missed the grow out period. Yea he can certainly eat alright lol, smashes a good 20 or so 1mm Thera a pellets per sitting, and I'm sure he'd eat more but I leave it at that as anymore and it seems to bloat him n slow him down a bit haha. Generally give him 2 or 3 of those size feedings a day depending how hungry he is, he has his moody days where only wants to eat a few pellets so I'll usually skip the rest of that day and he's always starving again in the morning and going nuts once he sees me lol. As I said I'm just worrying about nothing haha as he's more than doubled in total length since I've had him. Just expected a much bigger fish after nearly 8 months of growth considering the last cichlids I owned before I got out of it for a while were oscars and Severums and they grew like crazy.

People just get spoiled by oscars, jags, etc. Most growth rates are around .5" a month. Gt's have pretty quick rates for 6 months then slow to a crawl. Don't overfeed and give plenty of clean water the growth will come. Your looking at around 2 yrs before you have a bigger fish. It will pay off though.

If it makes you feel better ive been growing out an istlanum for 7 months and he's around 4" from his original 1" shipping size.

Yea thanks mate it does, as you stated was just spoilt when I kept oscars lol. Just got offered an awesome lookin female a little bit bigger than him. So so badly want her but only got the one 50 gallon tank for the time being so would be a nightmare if **** got messy. Such a shame though coz they would produce some epic fry.
