Oh, sad you can't take him with you. Why not? That is very cool that he is becoming more familiar with you. When that happens; Finwin calls them Water Puppies :) Hee hee. His red coloring is coming in. Maybe he will be Hot Pink---your favorite color wasn't it? ;). His nuchal hump is noted. Looks good with the colors of your tank. Nice partnership of colors.
He loves that food. This past probably two days he’s gotten more aggressive feeding. He chase down a piece of food quickly. It’s fun to watch. I also have to complain about how fast they sink. I was just thinking that today. I’ve been sticking the tips of my fingers in the water everyday. Each time he’s been getting closer to my fingers. Maybe he’ll hand feed soon.
Okay good. So how much roughly should I feed him? I’ve been feeding bug bites color enhancer cause that’s the only thing he’s wanted to eat so far which is annoying cause it’s the most expensive food per weight I got for him lol.
Amount depends on his size--stage of development. How big is he? Judging from plant backgrounds I would say 1to 1½ pellets; that is if we are talking about slightly fatter than rice size pellets. I don't know know the size of Bug Bites pellets. I will be ordering some to try with my Hikari pellets. I read one of the ingredients of Bug bites are fly larvae. Yum. I used raise mealworm larvae for my birds and fish. There is also a Bug Bites product for mosquito bites and other insect bites on humans. I will try not to order that by mistake. They are are sold next to fish Bug Bites online.

If you expand last box, there is a reply to amount of food for fish.
These pellets are very small. Maybe 2 mm max. They aren’t just round either they are more like they took a big chunk of the food and smashed it with a hammer and made really small random shaped pieces. My flowerhorn is loving it. I tried throwing some into my community tank but not many liked it. If I rememebr the rainbows were going after it the most. And the two angelfish too.

Is it super hard and takes a while to soften? Sharp hard, irregular pieces could damage his intestines. Gee, I am not trying to cause more work. Presoaking to soften slightly might be a good idea until he is a little bigger. Finwin presoaks hers and her fish are huge. Those pieces are pretty tiny though.

They aren’t incredibly hard just like every other pellet pretty much. I stick my hand in and hold them by the surface to get him used to my hand in the tank.

Sadly going back to college so will only see him on some weekends. At least he’s coming with me next term.
Good he is coming with you soon.

Fancy isn’t it? I thought I could hang tools back there and see if my flowerhorn is a handy man lol. Yeah it’s a peg board the tank is by my old work bench. It was the most level spot in my basement.

I guess you could paint it green for a more 'natural' look, hee. Or hang rubber worms from the holes...
