My New World Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1st Definately not Freddy but rather a managuense.

2nd NO festae at all you got your self a Barred Midas.

3rd A Freddy is NOT a mini Dovii it's a Freddy same family of Parachromis but totally different species.

4th haha not Blue Acara no way in hell lol it's 100% Rivulatus. No doubt in my mind.

Never heard of a freddie in brackish either. My pair are spawning in tap water, they have wigglers right now as a matter of fact unless the bifas have gotten em.

I've read they preferred hard water. that could be where that person was confused.

Gonna differ with opinion her and probably get shot down in flames.

I know it's not a Freddy, Damn!!

BUT It is one of the guapote's, large well toothed piscivore. I didn't mean it was aa actual minature Wolf Cichlid, what I MEANT WAS that the Dovi can get to 28" whilst the Freddy gets no more than 12", so you can have experience of a large toohed piscivore without tank buster dimensions - Doh!!
And if you do some reserach into Freddys you'll find that the are from the Atlantic slope of Mexico to Belize and that the regularly enter Esturine and other Brackish water habitats to hunt!

I think I'll wait on the IT ISN'T A FESTAE, couple of months might prove me wrong, but it might prove me right. There is a similarility (see pic) and juveniles are always a little wierd looking.

Blue Acara????? Didn't post a Blue Acara pic

Your bottom pic looks a lot like a immature midas or red devil to me. Can you get a better pic?

I don't see the resemblance at all..

Juvie Barred Midas...
CIMG0348.jpg

there are alot more similarities between these two fish than differences.

one of the dumbest things I've read in a while.

this thread is a joke.
nice male jag, nice pearsei.
nice MIDAS, and nice fish in general.
its not a damn firemouth, its definitely an amphilophus species.
people do your research before talking smack.
and that GT isnt a true rivaltus, its an acara.
thank you come again.

Thanks people, just trying to ID some of my fish thats all! Be nice!

Got some good advice on Jag/Freddy issue still not 100% sure if its a Male or Female.

I know its not a Firemouth, but everyone's entitled to their opinions and that's the way these threads work, experience and knowledge is a wonderful thing when shared.

MIDAS or FESTAE? Don't know but will wait and see, could be right could be wrong, no probs.

By the way I know that the GT isn't a GT, didn't ask if it was a aequidens rivulatus the true GT. I asked if it could possibly be Aequidens sp. Gold Saum and I'm 100% sure that it is.

It is NO way an Acara. I've got a Blue Acara in the same tank with the Gold Saum and the difference's are so easy to see. The Blue Acara dorsal fin does have red/orange color, only the tail doesn't. While GT dorsal fin and tail both have red/orange color. The Gold Saum body marking are much brighter than my Acara's and the body's are totally different shapes. Temperament of the two are total opposites as the Acara is very timid often bullied, whilst the GS is a little b***ard!

Which on is suspected Festae? Do you have another pic? I know you are getting sick of that question. How are the bars right behind the head of the festae? Do they Connect clearly or not connect but come close?
