can anybody recommend anything i could wrap around my power cord coming off my powerhead. keep him from chewing through it. somrthing that is aquarium safe!
you can use a clear plastic syphon hose ..or a intake hose or garden hose... ridged or flexible because you need something big enough for plug to fit through...

thanks...i didnt think about the spare syphon hose I got. repacing the plug is no problem....he already chewed through one powerhead, so I repaired but it has to be close to the surface. Im fixing to get another one and put it on the bottom. my water circulation has been my success to very clear water.

Glad i could help...been there with my pacu... he even got a piece of the filter down through his stomach and then lodged in his rectum..half in and half out.. we took it out with tweezers and he heeled up.. also he had a stone from his gravel substrate lodged in his nose ... after a week it fell out...they are always in some kind of trouble..

the only other trouble ive had was....i had a thermonoter at one time stuck to the glass....he chomped on it.....then i let it float....stupid me!! LOL! he chomped on it too....he's almost killed himself 3 times....electricty....and the mercury in the therm. thank god he didnt break into the mercury. as for the substrate he's spit out the river pebbles. bottom line_____is If anybody wants a pacu, they better be prepared or their equipment will be destroyed. im speaking from experence!!!

i know only too well...and the sad thing for me is mine were 8 years old in a 230 gal tank... and because they were huge everyone said they would bust the glass on the tank.. but instead the water from splashing caused a short circuit and caused a fire that heated up the bottom of the tank and it exploded.. because of the fire... almost new 230... destroyed along with losing my pacus..so make sure all your wires under the tank in the closet etc ..are up and safe from water... and have surge protector..

oh yeah! ive got my surge mounted high, so if any water comes down every cord has a drip loop. mine didnt catch on fire, but my last surge burned out. so i had to re mount it in a higher spot.

that will give me some time to either get a 200 plus tank, or fix the leak my 200 has. the leak is on a corner about 6 inches down

Well that will give you about 1.5 years then....

IMO-
If one cannot house a 3 foot fish for life-
It would be best to give that guy away why you still have a chance man....

Dont get me wrong-I own a pacu also-But it will outgrow my 500 gal eventually and is already pushing the limits of that-And he is only 24 to 26 inch range.
I love my guy to death-But it's going to be very hard when the day come I have to put him down.

Anyhow-Just something to stew over man-----If people could house these guys properly-More people would own them-They are agreat fish to own...
