my plywood tank frame! (with pics)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
im in the double glazing at the moment but i am a semi qualified building surveyor, i have also worked in the under pinning houses etc, and swimming pools,
the dimensions are 5x5x2

well it depends what kind of arrow you get, silvers are the biggest at around 3 feet as far as i know, then jardinis and asians at 18-24 i think. i just think that aros on top of rays looks so cool and they complimant eachother really well, maybe some discus in between. i think a school of 15 or so cory cats of some kind would be cool. as a individual they are boring but they would add some drama to the tank. they'll also really help keep it clean and probably spawn after every big water change. as far as cichlids go what kind do you want? big bad and beautiful or ugly, little bad and beautiful, peacefula and beatiful, small and prolific to give the bigger inhabitansts some sport. we need some criteria on the stocking subject.
you were planning on putting those rays that get to only 12" in there weren't you?

the tank is gonna be so awesome i'm excited to see it. are you able to do frequent large water changes? becuase with canisters there isn't much room for bio and it deosn't really do much good wubmerged in the dark anyway, so if you have no problem with bi-weekly water changes or more depending on stocking great but if not i would put some bio on the thing to to cut down on water changes. then you can have the fx5's for mech and chem filteration.

the fish i was thinking of were going to be along the lines of uarus or something like that, so peaceful, the shoal of catfish will probably happen in the shape of large emerald corys or hoplos or flagtails! not sure yet, and i think a small arro will be out of the question due to price,

the bad thing is i just bought a motoro r009 if that means anything? so when this tank is done and i move house there is going to be a large shallow tank built for a motoro and motoros mate yet to be purchased, while im writing this iam watching my back in case the mrs is watching!!!

the filtration will be 1fx5 and 1 eheim 2260 so i get a balance of mechanical and bio, but iam thinking of linking the two together some how,

yes i do massive water changes now i do 50 liters a day on a 400 liter tank, i have two 25l canisters full of water and constantly heated under the tank ready to do changes straight away so its eay really, but i dnt want to over stock the tank when its done, getting the pond paint on soon! and making the base!,
the height of the base will be shallow so the rays can be seen from the top and sides when sat on the sofa! as the top is going to be acrylic and im going to have a row of aquaray led lights x4 around the sides and they are 7w each! so saving money thats what i told the boss lol! but didnt say i was having 4!

off to the fish store now again update with what i have bought for it later if anything!

cheers for the help 'my fish eat your fish' and every1 else that has contributed

i have filled the screw head holes with wood filler waiting for it to dry to sand

have bought these fish too! the cichlids for this tank and the motoro for another of my tanks

pond paint should be here tuesday hopefully!

It looks good so far. I like the foot print of this tank.
