my plywood tank frame! (with pics)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
before the second coat of epoxy went on i used epoxy putty on all the internal joints and then applied a very thick coat over the top of it, it now has 3mm of epoxy all over base and 2mm up the sides,

will be filling and sanding the base and moving to final position and painting exterior, that should take me a week or so!

and in between all of that fish shoppoing and collecting my fluval fx5
i have decided to buy geos for this tank and leave the festive cichlids in the tank where they are now with my motoro, would big corys be ok with geos?

geos will be ok with, which geos were you thinking of

ur tanks looking good mate, im just waiting to install the glass in my plywood growout

looking great! very well built also!
i'm sure that stand is strong enough but i would like to see a center support and crossbracing for piece of mind, but thats just me. for cross bracing i would only brace 2 sides that are at right angles to eachother, that would leave two sides open.
can't wait to see it finished.
you will see the geos chase the corys most likely, but nothing serious, they will cohab fine.
what kind of geos do you plan on getting, i love the red humps for small interesting little guys! brasils for big and beautiful!

Love it!

Have you considered just painting the outside (non waterproofed) wood with a efw coats of poly and calling it done? Leaving all the color, imperfections, and stuff in the wood? I think that would be unique, but probably not your cup of tea...

Are you going to skin the stand or just leave it like that and paint it?

havent decided on geos but maybe daemon 1's

the stand doesnt need any support as i have overdone the corner posts they are 1ft 1wide by 6" and the top rail is tripple thickness 4x3 so thats a foot too! and has a 8" x 4" centre brace spanning the bottom, i can stand on the stand in the centre and jump up and down on i and it doesnt move with 14stone so it wont with the spread weight of the water!

the outside of the tank will be filled with wood filler and sanded very smooth with emery cloth the final sanding paper, then primed twice and then sanded very smooth again and then painted sanded and painted again!
then will have golden oak architrave around the base of the stand and base of the tank, the openings in the tank will have curtains made of cloth will post pics of my other tank with curtains!

the viewing panels will be acrylic 10mm
