I want to thank my friend Stan for taking these photos and going on this expedition with me, it was the most difficult export I've ever attempted, seriously. and these are pictures taken from his tank last night, of the actual fish we have.

Just to let you know the fish you have may be featured in the up coming TFH article, as there will be several articles coming up and one should be about these amazing animals.

oh geez! this is why stan went to chengdu????
he messaged me a few weeks ago saying he was in china on a fish collecting trip... i didn't realize THIS was what he was after... kudos to him man!:headbang2

This species is found in the Yangtze River in China. The locals raise them as food.

well, according to the locals they do not taste as good as some other fish, and good luck trying to find them along the Yangtze, I speak the language, and we went all over town looking for them., most people have not seen them for years already. There is only one successful breeding of this fish with hormone. All the other farms are using the information from that and saying that they are breeding them but catching wild fish, so they can obtain grants from the government. Hope that helps explain this subject better.

I can read chinese, and the article states they were bred in 2004, but the fact is they're not, and non are available. Speaking to the local fish farms and people, many of these people were just catching wild ones and stocking them in their ponds, showing the government, so they can get grants.

according to some people, about 5 years ago, they were still available to be caught, but not, you only see one here and there as a by catch, not enough to sustain a natural population.

also the ponds show in the picture, are not suitable for breeding these fish.

wow that is one bad *** loach....if i had an extra 250 laying around it is def worth the thought...good luck on sale and nice catch

Does it grow as slow as a regular loach?
