My Rays Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It does look like the one ray, (pearl maybe?) is starting to curl...not good. Your water looks really cloudy. Have you tested to see what your parameters are? I have a hard time believing steel mesh would cause the water to smell bad. You may want to try to find the cause of that. What kind of smell is it? Rotten egg smell?

Yikes. I think you should do some water changes and try to dilute whatever kind of coating was on that wire mesh out of your system.
Good luck

yes its pearl, i think overdose the seachem prime is saving my rays life.
this morning condition got improved, all rays is moving around not still in 1 spot like last night, and already eating.

maybe water got cloudy because amonia spike, because MP that rays spew out too late to removed from water.
smelling look like a dead fish smell on water and near tank surrounding.

i had done it, 75-80% WC, and throwing a bottle seachem prime, i think this is ray life saver,
now rays condition is already normally.
i dont think want taking risk using the mesh anymore before i know exactly is it save for rays or not.

is anybody here is using the mesh screen too on rays rank guys ?

Hi guys,

this is my first post on MFK.
just want to share my rays tank.

tank size is 2700mm x 1200mm x 500mm (L x W x H)
sump size 1200mm x 500mm x 500mm (L x W x H), with 200liter Kaldness K1 Media only.
2 x 6000lph water pump, but right now just 1 pump is running.
lighting; 3 x 36 OSRAM PLL tube, 2 x 55watt PHILLIPS PLL tube, on timer 7.00 am - 24.00 pm. on only 3 x 36 watt, maybe lighting will be replaced with LED lighting or T5 ATI tube later.

actually this rays batch is the 3rd batch, the first and second batch is died because my fault.
1 pair 6" pearl rays, 1 male and 2 female 8"-9" black diamond rays
i just thinking, what the bad for rays if i turn on the lighting 24/7,

so you are tanning the aro correct?.
just put the light slightly higher, so there is still some area which will not be exposed from the light for your rays to rest and chill. make sure you have nuff aeration coz the water will gets warmer and holds less oxygen. however, you might not get a 100% efficiency from the tanning, since your aro may just swim near the bottom to avoid the light as well if they are not used to.. but it is better than nothing still.

gw juga tanning super red, di comtank dengan stingrays, ga masalah sejauh ini, selain lumutan =)

What grade of stainless mesh was it? If it was a 400 series of stainless that would explain it but if it was 304 or 316 I do not see it effecting your water as it is food grade

He had mentioned it was 304, that's why I didn't think it was caused by the mesh. I wondered if when changing out the mechanical filtration, something got disturbed in the bio and possibly stirred up a dead zone or something

not tanning as put the light on the tank front/side glass, just put on the top.
there is no shaded area on my tank, even will add more light later so all the area is got equal on light

aeration is not a problem anymore on my tank because i have 1 x resun LP20 and 1 x resun LP40 on the sump plus 1 resun king3 powerhead that splashing on water surface to let the K1 moving. beside the main pump, i think its plenty of aeration already.

24jam nyala gak ya bro?

304 grade ss, hard to find the 316 grade ss mesh here,
but i think is a good idea if the ss mesh changed with nylon mesh, tomorrow i want to find it, hope its available here.

i think that is cause my rays problem bro. because now rays is just fine, since i changed the water,
maybe when was i removed all the mechanical filter, filtration system is influenced.
right now water become cloudy, just like starting a new tank. maybe bio filter is crash.

certainly if the ss mesh is not the cause, still i dont think so want to using it again.

here is vid, tank condition today, i doing a 50% wc because water so cloudy

Good to see everybody active and healthy looking! I worry for you, that is a really nice collection and would hate to see you lose any. I'm thinking your bio got disturbed and caused the issue. A few big waterchanges over the next couple weeks should get things under control. Keep us updated.
