OP, the truth is, no one knows why they get DE. Nothing has been proven yet. So, you can just rest well knowing you're doing all you can for your Aro, and that he's healthy.

Drop eye or no drop eye your aro is beautiful! Not sure if the live food thing could be the cause of drop eye, I doubt it very much tho. every silver i have had has had DE in varying degrees
i do a sort of aro rescue and try to rehome them
the cause of DE is probably found in the differences between living in a river and living in a tank
so there is probably several factors that cause it in indivedual fish
none the less they are an awesome fish when they get big
