My stingray died, I don't know why and I feel like complete garbage.. PLEASE HELP

As well as maybe colonizing my tank with Java ferns to help cut down on nitrates and phosphates? And will my pleco eat java ferns, don't remember where I heard this but I heard plecos stay away from Java moss/ferns. And will my oscar tear it up? if i were to add Java ferns I would add it behind my driftwood or on it to let it grow. i don't really see my oscar being picky with the decor anymore 0.o

Also, I finally found the GPH on all my filters combined, it's 1083 gph. what should the gph in my tank be? Not sure how to find the turnover rate though, since turnover rate and GPH are totally different things, can anyone explain why?

As far as I know your turnover rate is now many times your tank gets filtered per hour. Gph is just a flow rate. I don't think your actually getting 1000 Gph out of that canister and 2 hob filters though.

So say you have a 100g tank and 1000 Gph. Your turn over rate will be 10

In that case my turnover rate seems to be fine. I tested the Nitrates yesterday and today both after feeds with no water changes. And (the test kit is $50) and it always showed at 0.2 or lower?? I only changed about 30% of the water. Once when he was panicing and once after I left him in the tank to make sure he was dead. I'm beginning to doubt a little that it could have been nitrates. But then again I'm no expert. The first test was 2 days after btw.

Would powerheads fix my problem? For now I'm going to get better nitrate-killing filter media. Also I think the temperature might have contributed to him dying, My crappy digital thermo said it was at 88, even though the water felt considerably warm, and when I turned off the heater and changed 20% colder water WC the thermo said 87 afterwards even though the water was clearly colder? Could it also have been mis-interpretation of temperature? I was told 88 was a little hot. Thank you so much as well for your contribution as well!!!!! :)

Ya 88 is way to warm I have both my tanks at 79. Imo you need more media power heads will help if you have dead spots in your tank. Go buy some k1 put 1.5 liters in a 2 liter Pepsi bottle and run it off an air stone
