How come some fish should not be accumulated at first? When I got my armatus, I was told to plainly dump it into the tank once I got home. Not sure about the legit/scientific reason why.

Sorry man, that sucks to hear. Hopefully you can get your hands on another one that stays healthy during acclimation.

I've never had an issue with bucket acclimating, what was the reason stated when you were told it was a bad idea specifically for ATF? Just curious as to why that would be the case.

I will say I've heard people debate whether or not to acclimate a fish outside of the bag or to strictly match temps while floating the bag and then letting the fish in the tank after shipping. I'm not sure whether it's because of ammonia buildup during shipping being exposed to greater levels of oxygen or if it's somehow related to the additives used to ship the fish. I'm honestly not even sure if it is an actual issue, as I've only had one fish shipped directly to me before.

Ive been getting fish shipped a lot lately because im too bored with the local selection of things, Rob will know the details of it but he basically told me that because of the o2 buildup the water basically depletes its oxy super quick without any surface agitation. If i had tossed an airstone in there i would have been good. The reasoning was they are open water fish who live in a highly oxygenated enviroment, and the rapid depletion of said oxygen is no good for the tiger. F the buckets, im floating bags from now on unless the tank i bought the fish in looks sketchy water quality wise

Sorry for your loss as you were obviously very excited. I have to say though that I've had 2 ATF and I acclimated both of them in a bucket without any issue.

I'm with this guy......

I bucket acclimate everything. Including my group of the same fish, from the same vendor.

If you took pics of it in the tank it must have made it to your water?

Looked like it was alone...... Was this a new setup?

+1. I always use a bucket or rubbermaid.

Tank had been running for a lil over a year at this point, tank mates were an albino Senegal, palmas polli, and leopard ctenopoma. The albino sen and cten are both about 3 inches and the palmas is about 5. No problems with any of em other then a scratch on the belly of the polli. My testing showed no problems, PH was 7.5, Nitrite was 0 and Nitrate was 0. I had been keeping the tank super clean in prep for this guy.

That was the most likely COD reason I was given, maybe if the drip I used went a bit faster that would have been enough agitation. I'm putting an air stone in the bucket for any non air breathing species from now on.
