Need advise! (frontosa saved from a terrible situation, What now?)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
*update* ate again, still far from competitive. If I could get him to eat out of my hand things would get much easier. My eel is another shy fish, if I didnt hand feed it it would probably starve.

If he is eating a bit now you should be ok, my fronts are not aggressive eaters unless i skip feeding for a day or two, then they gobble it up. Otherwise they are very slow about feeding, more like they take their time and just browse lightly, thats why i recommend you try to feed a sinking pellet and a floating pellet, the other fish can race around on the surface and the front can take his time foraging on the bottom for his sinking pellets.

Right now I'm just trying to hand feed him large krill, hopefully him seeing my eel do it will make him trust me more.

The krill floats right down, I just don't like over-feeding my fish.
I really need to earn my frontosas trust so I can hand-feed him!!! lol

He is beautiful.. and his fins looked like they were nipped thats all..this is why fronts are not good with anything but other fronts..they act and look lazy ....even though they are beautiful..they are slow moving and slow eating etc.. get him a cave like cichlidgirl suggested and continue to hand feed him and he will be fine.. i use a long pair of tongs for my one who will not by day part with his cave, i put the food right in there with him..talk about spoiled:D

Atm I have no were else to really put him, any caves would be taken over quickly by the large yellow lab. I know a quite a few people that keep them with haps, but then again I know quite a few people that have tried and failed.

Try putting some fake plants and a couple of rocks in a small pile. You can also put a couple large rocks by themselves. You dont have to make a actual cave, just some cover for him to feel secure or stake out for his area. He might like to be able to take cover behind the plants. I noticed that my fronts when they feel comfortable have a nice blue tint to them and when they are nervous they tend to clamp the fins a bit and act skitish. most noticable is the white/blue stripes blanch completly white like somebody bleached them. The black stripes appear inky black too. They often have black blotches on the head too. They only do that when they are frightened or very nervous about something, such as aggression from alpha etc...

I love their big tough look, it's kind of funny when you find out they're total wimps lol!

You know red devil the funny thing is he has places were he hides when he's freaked out, but I noticed he comes into the open after he calms down. He still dosen't trust me, swims to the back as soon as go a few feet near the tank.

He is starting to move gravel around now get a bit more agressive, GOOD to see!!!!!!

it was funny when he he yawned and the courious eel stuck his head in the fronts mouth!!! yikes!!!! The front just looked surpised and swam backwards

The yellow lab is still definitly the boss of my tank, he's a monster in his own rights. I've never seen a lab get that big, although his huge bulky looking face and sub-marine like build makes me think he's some kind of cross-breed.
