I have a 90 gallon with small tropicals in it. A few months ago, I brought home some new fish (a couple tetras, a gold nugget pleco ,and a couple barbs). There is/ was a couple bala sharks, TF barbs, platties, and synos. in there as well. Well, I didn't quarintene, because I trusted the LFS I have been going to for years. Guess what. There was some kind of fungal outbreak the next day that wiped out half of the tank. I treated it with melafix and pimafix, and there were some survivors. The same thing has come back twice, and I have been treating it the same way every time. This time, I have lost 3 fish so far and one of the synos. is in rough shape. He has bare spots in his skin where his fins lay against his body. In his "armpits" (pec. fins) and under his anal fins is all raw. It looks like the skin is all rubbed off and the white meat is exposed. What can I do? Is the melafix/ pimafix too strong for cats? Any suggestions? Also, any suggestions on how to keep the fungus from coming back again?
