i keep largemouth bass and they make great pets. i like hand feeding them. for tankmates i use minnows and rainbow trout mostly. the shiners disappear and then i go get more. bullheads also make good tankmates.

i like lmbs, i had one in my tank for a while...it got eatten after i had to move it to a diff tank...i may get another one though...

They make awesome pets IF you have the space for one. In my opinion they need a tank at least 6' x 3' to be happy and healthy.

to truly be happy i think a bigger setup is needed...i have cought some piggly bass and they wouldn't work well in a 6' tank...maybe like a 8-10'x4'x3' would be good for life...so it would have plenty of room...just stay clear of trout for a food sorce...then you would need to go bigger as you will have a collosal mouth bass not a lmb...eg. i caought a 6lb lmb out of a trout lake that i could fit both my fists in its mouth and one fist in the throught hole(didn't try it)...next day a 5.75lb out of a panfish lake, one fist in its mouth, 2 finger in the throught hole...also a much shorter chunkier fish then the trout feed bass...

why would you want to keep large mouth bass when you can keep cichla?
because cichla are overpriced feeders:headbang2

The LFS here havn't even heard about peacock bass. But, the best we have is a petsmart 1 hr away. Sad.
Bass make pretty good pets if gotten very young. They are considered a game fish though, so you can't keep them until they meet the minimum size for angling. Makes it tough. You also need a very large tank, and very good filtration. Remember, these fish can grow to be over 3' long, although that is not very common.
:headbang2 My uncle owns a pond that boasts multiple bass around 3 ft. true monsters!! they come up to the top for alittle while, then they disappear again. of course the pond is 30 ft deep at the lowest point:headbang2

Haha... yeah right. Ain't foolin me.

I hate when people are saying that bass get over 3 feet long and stuff. The longest bass is 29-30 inches and that's VERY rare.

Try 20-24 inches for a nice big bass. And that will take a few years to grow.

If you get a 5-6 inch bass, you could probably keep it in a 150 gallon tank for 2 years before you had to upgrade.
