So today i notice the tank smells funny so i do a 50% water change and then test the water...Ammonia is way high....and my rena xp3 is half full of water....these are by FAR the WORST canisters i have ever seen....it clogs and gets messed up all the time... its sooo frustrating so detatched it cleaned it and spent another 10 min trying to get the syphon to go....by far worst investment i have ever made...will never be buying anything rena again...my ehiem is perfect and no problems at all and it has the self primer.

Thanks for listening to my frustration....i hope i dont lose my fish to this piece of junk!
Just toss that white sponge that came with the filter.. You can only use it for short term to "polish" your water, but that one get clogged pretty fast, and will slow down your water flow. I used Rena in the past, and have no complaint against it.

Didn't read any of the pages...

I don't put sponges in my Rena except the bottom chaimber, the rest media.
I had one that had a bad O-ring, called Rena n they shipped me a new hose detatch (2hose ports where it clips) and O rings for the motor, hose orings and a square oring for the base. I got my Rena used but told them I just got it... 4years later it is still running. I now own 3 renas X3-4 w/no problems

I would just pick up the phone n break down your problem. They will tell you how to start the canister, maint and come up w/a solution (atleast w/me they did)

I love the XP filters, in fact I think the Eheims are big pieces of junk. Actually just sold my 2128 and replaced it with a XP3. Fast and easy to clean since the chambers fit in a 5 gallon bucket and seals have never leaked in the 6 XPs I own.

dang i prob woud traded u for that ehiem lol..i just mainlyfind the syphoning part the most difficult and for some reason i have a lot of gunk in my in and outlet tubes... so the flow really isnt as good as it used to be...

Take out the sponges then n keep up on water changes n lower feedings. I find more feedings gets more smell. IMO

I would ship my xp3's out to someone, but for my mental health I'm taking them to the firing range and putting them out of my misery.

It's true they don't have the flow of an FX5, but they are very comparable to the Eheims. If you use the parts that come with it you can just unscrew the top on the inlet side and pour water down it to fill. I usually clean out the filter, leave it empty and then pop the front 2 tabs to prime it. Takes about 10 seconds.

:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL: I'll ship u mine sometime if u'll post it on youtube

My two XP3's are also crap. They stop working about once a month and only a full, lengthy and messy clean will get them running again. When I say stop working I mean there is not even a trickle coming out. I hate them so much.

Although, the stealth intake heaters are nice for people like myself who keep rays.
