no. you want the lever up, so no water flows in to the filter. then unscrew the cap and fill the hose with water, then put the cap back on and then push the valve down. then it will fill the canister up.
 
that what i usually do lol... but okay i guess i gotta work on it
 
the thing is, once the hoses are full of water you never need to drain them. unless you want to clean the inside of the hoses which I never do lol.

so priming the filter is a simple as filling up the canister with water, and putting down the lever so the hoses connect.

plug it in and boom.

away it goes.

I am sure once you learn how easy it is to maintain and prime these filters you will love yours too!
 
I hate these filters so much... I am willing to take everyone's XPs... I will even let you pay for the shipping on them if you like. Of course if the FX5 is the problem then I will take those as well... Consider this the glue factory to your horse problem.
