New 300G Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looking good! I'm basically at the same stage as you in my tank setup. I just got done with my plumbing. Took way longer than I anticipated. Lots of measuring, remeasuring, cutting, measuring again, gluing.

With the nice weather yesterday early evening, I was able to get some tank drilling done. Now I just have to hope for some more nice weather to get the back painted. The can of paint says it has to be 50F degrees or above so hopefully we get a few more nice days so I can get the tank finished up and moved inside.

Making some good progress. After quite a bit of consideration, I have decided to just buy two additional bulkheads and some unions and only slightly raise the first tank. I just don't feel I have enough room to do maintenance if I bump it up any higher. Also I got the first couple of coats of paint on the back. Need probably two more to make it so the work light won't shine through. IMG_1970.jpgIMG_1972.jpgIMG_1971.jpg

What are you going to run in your 3 filters? Just standard 1 or 5 micron filters and some carbon?
Going with a standard paper filter first to pick up any debris in the water (even though I'm on city water) and then two of the Pentek ChlorPlus-10 Chloramine filters. Which are rated at 1 micron. Do you filter? If so what do you use? At one point I was considering doing my own activated carbon canister in the 2nd one, but decided against it. Adding in the pressure gauges so I know when to change filters. Was thinking about putting them on a rainbird and doing a 10 minute cycle every other day, but that will have to wait until I get everything else set.

Yeah I've got 3 filters also but I just have 5 micron filter then 1 micron filter then carbon filter, in that order. I like to hear what others do just to see what options I have in the future. I haven't heard of those chloramine filters before, do they work in all standard 10" tall filters?

Yeah I heard about this particular cartridge on BRS they recommended running it in 2 stages for chloramines which my local water municipality uses.

According to the product page:

  • Superior chloramine and chlorine reduction
  • Nominal filtration rating of 1 micron
  • Fits most standard 10-inch housings
  • Flow rate up to 1 gallons per minute
