New 300G Setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A few more pictures. Got the back of the stand cut this weekend, not as straight as i wanted it, but no one should be looking back there anyway. Wish they would have just done it at the shop would have been much better, but as I didn't specify, I can't complain. Ended up going with themacroman on ebay's filter sock holder. I like the way he connects the two pieces of acrylic 100% better over jaxracks. File_005.jpegFile_004.jpegFile_002.jpeg

This is as high as I can reasonabley get and still have access to work on the top tank, take filter socks out etc. So my bulkheads will have to be above that line. This still should provide plenty of space for overflow. In fact I think I may add an additional bulkhead in the top sump and add it to my outside drain line just in case..

Make sure you don’t under estimate how much space you need for maintain the sump and equipments. Looks like you’re going to have minimal space to work with.

Yeah, before I cut anything I am planning on dry fitting my pvc to make sure I can get everything in and out the way I need to. Hopefully I'll get some time to do that after work and see how it looks.

Had to order a few split ring hangers in from the big box store the other day. Why they don't carry 1.5" in store is a mystery, but anyway here are some pictures from what I got done today after the ring hangers came in. Should hopefully have a good feel for sump height by tomorrow and hopefully can get the sump holes drilled.

You're gonna love, I mean LOVE having a drain on your tank. I've got a drain on my 300 also. No problem with freezing, it's warm water after all.

I run the Ranco controller on two tanks and have always had problems with the sensors going bad no matter how I sealed them. I finally started using thermowells and never looked back. Just glue a little piece of acrylic on the inside wall of your sump with a drilled hole to accept the thermowell. The sensor slips inside and never contacts water. Kinda pricey but compared to replacing a bad sensor it's a bargain.

That is so cool!

That looks like a very nice setup! The stand looks plenty sturdy and I am sure it will hold up to many years of use. The craftsmanship and details could use a bit of work but it is a million times better than a particle board stand from Petco, etc.

This is the emergency overflow on my sump:

The clear tubing is attached to a pump that is on a timer that turns on every morning for 10 minutes. It pumps water out of the sump down the drain.

The float valve is in the second compartment of the sump and opens up when ever the water gets low in the sump.

The temperature mixing valve supplies tank temperature water to the float valve:
