I'm planning to just transfer the existing filter media and fish from my 120 gallon into this tank, skipping cycling .

That's all you need to do. As long as you are not adding more fish than you already have,you should not have any problems.Instant cycle. Using old tank water is just going to add nitrates to your new tank. So there is no point is using the water. Keep the old media in your sump for a month or so,then it should be safe to remove it,or keep it in there,it won't matter.

^^^^ Yeah this is the best way to do it. If you have the space in your sump to get some media started then just transfer it over to the new tank you will be all set

using OHF filter from his old tank to seed.

btw when can i remove the old filter and let the new filter take over?

thanks Almost everything's cheaper here. maybe except nice discus and other really nice fish. for the tank about 600 dollars when converted to USD.
