The old canopy is finaly off and the lights are being removed to go to the new canopy:

You can see how bad it got water in it. A combo of using the wrong wood (MDF) and not having glass tops did this one in.

The last of the white paint went on today. lights and black paint by the weekend. More pix to come.

Here is the canopy with the lights removed.

You can see the real wood trim held up much better than the MDF. That was a huge downfall and the main reason I am building a new canopy.

The lights are finally installed on the lid of the canopy and the white paint is done.

The lights got carriage bolt holding them on to the lid. With an overall height of over 6 feet on the tank the top of the canopy will be hard to see and the vertical walls are also ¼” taller than the lid the bolts will not be seen once it is done.

The round holes are drilled under an air vent that is being installed to air in so it is not a rainforest in the canopy.
The 4 gray strips and door handles that are sunken into the lid and slide up to grab onto for ease of removal of the lid for lighting maintenance without removing the canopy.

The outlets will be mounted in this location so all I need to do to remove the lid is unplug the 2 yellow plugs from the canopy and it is free. The other set of plugs is for moon lighting I will be adding down the road.

You can see the jumpers between the 2 light strips.
