nice final outcome, I'm thinking of building one for my 120g, and will probably use your thread for reference. Do you think plastic cover will work as well as glass covers, as I am on a very tight budget, and can't afford new glass.

Also would you reccomend plywood as the best material? And is it essential that the inside of the hood is water tight??

Thanks.

yes you can use plastic but it will bow. the glass was $65 from a local glass shop. the hindge was $13 online.

The glass on the 2 ends does not open with the hood on so I will be looking for other ideas.

Plywood is your best bet. We used Thompsons water sealer on the entire thing before we painted.

Good luch with your build and let me know if you need any help just ask.

Looks great. I love the design of the top piece for lighting maintenance. I think the primer was a good idea too, even with the glass hoods it still will be a little humid in there.

Is that a fan on the side away from the wall? If it is, does that turn on with the lights? If it does then it must be a 115 volt fan and not something out of a computer that runs on DC? LOL way to many questions, i know.

Great build!

Edit: I love the first picture of sawdust! :headbang2 I want to go out to my garage right now and cut something :D

Thanks. If you look at my old one it made it way harder to do anything on the tank. This one makes everything easyer!

No fan. The one end is the light switches and the other is a computer desk cord plug for the light cord.

I thought about fans and they will not be hard to add to the lid down the road. I am getting the saltwater bug and I built this canopy with the ability to a MH lights down the road.

HAHA Im going to do a small tank first (40B) but I built this canopy to last as long as I own this tank and at some point I might want MH lights.
