i just got one about a week ago. Its about 5"
Cool, how long did it take for you to get it eating? Mine aren't eating yet. I think it might take a longer time for mine to start eating because at the LFS, their diet was 100% feeders, but I feed my fish shrimp & pellets.

When I first got my lima, he was only a feeder eater as well. What I did was starve him for a few days and then I put in a variety of pellets. I added shrimp pellets and he gobbles them down. I also add raw market shrimp which he and the niger cat love.

Okay, I'll try starving mine for a couple more days. Thanks for the info.

Good luck with the feeding...

Your best bet is to starve them for a few more days, just dont give in and feed them feeders. Also try to feed them at night, youll know they ate the during the night when you see their stomach's bulging in the morning. Mine feels most comfortable eating at night, or when its dark, thats when their most active and looking for food.

Yeah I definitely won't feed them feeders for two reasons: I would feel bad purposefully killing fish, and I would have no way to qt them since my only spare tanks are a 1/2g bowl and a 55g that I don't have the space, nor the time to setup up.

This is a little of topic, but is it normal for them to shed a thin layer of skin? Because I noticed a thin peice of skin coming off of one of the limas on Saturday night, then when I checked on them the next morning, both looked completely normal.

Hey nice cats i have one also but the store sold them to me under the name (shovle-nose gar) haha i knwo they arnt gar but thats what ive been calling them
