New female Jag

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I hope mine gets bigger than 8". She is trying to own the tank she is in already and she is only 6" and I don't really want to end up with a 75 gallon tank owned by 1 x 8" fish.

females only get 8, 9 tops, just watched my female drop eggs, no male to fertilize , but have a wild caught coming in the next 3 weeks,.
pic of her and none fertile eggs just taken.

females can get bigger than 8...they can get to 12...and males dig nests also...
here are a couple pics of when my male and female were in the 6-8 inch range...
trying to show what I mean by about the higher angled head profile(compare that similarity to yours and all the other males and females posted)...

nice looking jags, yes they can for size but a over 9" female in a aquarium is not the norm, and a over 14" male is not either,

Thanks.... Here are a couple of pics I took this morning the male is on his fry guarding mode pattern... He has one bright pattern where the lateral blotch is almost gone and another he goes dark when he is in wary mood.... this to show how the males pattern can be ever changing

meant to say pic of the female is the first above to compare the previous when she was smaller...

So has anyone on here ever had any success keeping a female jag with a tank mate long term in a tank around 75g?

mine did breed with a texas cichlid in a 75...but with a divider...anything small enough mine tried to eat....

Without a divider I'd worry about any tank mate. Cons and small aggressive cichlids with rock work could work but anything her size will be a fight
