New female Jag

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
male jags can be psychotic, female always needs a place to get away from him. divider with a opening just big enough for her best option

My jag keeps on hiding squeezed in under a log sideways and hardly ever comes out not even for food. I used to have a female jd which did exactly the same thing, is this normal for this type of fish? My carpintis is still out swimming like normal and comes to visit me at the glass so everything seems to be fine in the tank just a very shy jag I am guessing?

How big is your carpintis? Male or female? Harassing her? She may be still adjusting, took my big male a couple weeks to really show his true nature, I kept the tank lights positioned across the back of my h.o.b.s to dim the lighting down. That seemed to help a lot.

The carpintis is only about 4" and the jag 6" I will be removing the carpintis soon any way because I can see him getting killed soon if I don't. She does come out at night so I will try and dim the lights and see what happens.

Even try having the tank light completely off for a few days, just usse a table lamp nearby for light.my male was super temperamental when I got him, it was a long couple weeks but when he came around he did it big time.

I left the lights completely off for about 2 days and them a day with only half the lights and have also now removed the carpintis. Now the only tank mate is a gold spot pleco and a couple of bristle noses. She is still a little frightened and I may permanently leave the lights dimmed.
