New fish we just picked up

A quick update.
unfortunately after 4months and only an inch in length growth I have lost the Juerense. Just not putting weight on and eventually he gave up trying.
on the positive side the jau is now around four inch and is in new 4ft accommodation with a new inmate, a 5" liarius marmoratus. I thought the jau had fast growth generally, like redtails , etc, but I bought the liarius at 3" and now 5" in just 2 weeks! !!! Never known growth like it!
The capa\ fila is doing well now and has hit 10" excluding tail in his 6 *2 tank with the bagarius and a tigrinus as tank mates. Still skittish but much less than he was and great to watch him circle back on his food before taking it. Just a quick on Dave, watch the tig with the piriaba, the tigs nip at them from personal experience. When I picked my larger capa up it was kept in a 7x3 with a 2ft tog. One had it almost a year and it one whisker what was removed at the bed hasn’t came back. (Tail, whiskers & all body fins were all trashed on the at the time 18” capa) it may be a adult thing, not sure on smaller specimens.

Nice one mate, thank you for the heads up. The piraiba is probably 3" longer than the tig but some mornings wakes up with splits in his tail. Looks like what you seen is happening here too. Talking to Richard at wharf and as soon as I mentioned monsterfishkeepers.com your name came up.

Just a quick update on the Brachyplatystoma.
Definitely not capapretum.
Spots have come out great now and he is a lovely silver. Freaked him out doing water changes a few days ago but settles much better than he used to.
Has the occasional spat with the tigrinum but at over a foot long (excluding tail) now he has already caught up and grown past her. His growth rate is on a par with his other tank mate bought at the same time, bagarius yarrellii which has also passed a foot. Both love to sit in the flow of 6000 litres/hr oxygenated return, one above the rock in the picture, one below

Word of advice Dave, don’t think the tig will be safe, I had my fila of the same batch eat a albino wels 3” smaller then it. Well I say eat, digest half of it then spit it out. Also a few others. And I feed every two days. Mines now around 15/16”.

Looks impressive though mate. A lot more spotting then mine!

I second this. My Suriname piraiba, when it was 2.5', killed a 1.5' tig in a 4500 gal, too digesting the tail end and spitting out.

Well, just a bit of an update.
think you guys were right about the tig and the piraiba. No sooner had we all posted than the tig was climbing the sides to get out and quite pink instead of white. I put this down to stress and moved her out that day but unfortunately she was barrel rolling to her demise. Have I learnt my lesson you ask, well probably not for now the 10" Marmoratus is in with the piraiba and goonch. Had to move her out of the Jau tank as a 7" Jau still does damage to a 10" leiarius marmoratus.
Not a fan of catching fish to photo but if I didn't with the Jau then none of us would ever see it, it's that reclusive!

Think I need to give a little more time between feeds now as she has a belly on her even 2 days after a feed of a 2" square of white fish, no doubt also due to the lack of open swimming now she had a 4 ft tank to herself.

Here is an update on another two recent additions.
firstly the hemibagrus filamentus.
Also in solitary confinement since it tore up the fins on my megalodoras uranoscopus.
Nice cat at now 7" , lovely dark colouring with white underside. Lower whiskers white while top pair dark.

Will be really interesting to see how she acclimatizes in the future to other tank mates but for now she stays by herself.
As for the uranoscopus, he is now probably also 7" , put on 3" in 3 months, but I expect this to slow. He lives with a breeding group of kribensis and a black lancer for now ( I know , very strange choice!)
