New flowerhorn!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ruturaj Ruturaj give it about a month or so and I think he will have completely regained his kok. As far as tank size they’re in my quarantine setup for right now until I move houses in a few weeks. I already have a 67g long(48x18x18) ready to set up for them. This specific bichir is a delhezi and is one of the smallest polyptyrus species, they recommend a minimum tank size of 55 gallons and this is a much higher footprint

That seems like perfect size tank for these guys. What I really wonder is how big your fish will grow, since it is seems to have longer body. May be more than 12 inches.

Ruturaj Ruturaj see, I don’t know. I’ve heard so many different things. Now this is a new one for me but I heard last night from a guy that raises Kamfas that body shape and size is determined through how you groom your fish and what size tank they’re raised in. I always figured it was just based upon genetics of the fish. I figured mine would be 12-14” long, he claims mine will only be 8-9” if kept in a taller, shorter tank. He recommended I keep him in a 65g tall and that it would make him grow taller and stay shorter. I already have his tank though and really don’t want to buy another.

I think longer is better than taller/shorter. I think your tank is better sized than 65g tall.

Minor setback last week, I came home to find this guys nuchal hump deflated and he wouldn’t eat. I dosed salt and general cure along with maracyn(his fin regrowth had depleted and was worsening). I don’t know if I didn’t dose these medications long enough the first time but here he is 3 days after the last dose. He’s been eating great for the last 4-5 days, nuchal hump is coming back in and his colors are back. Not to mention his pectoral fins are almost fully regrown. Since I’ve got him I’ve been doing a 50% water change every 3 days and I tested water before I started dosing medications again, it was perfect so I guess this guy just wasn’t feeling too good. Here are pictures from tonight right after a water change!

Your water looks really cloudy and maybe the bubbles at the top are from meds but to me thats usually a sign of poor water quality.

Ruturaj Ruturaj i wish I could post videos or I would, he’s happy as could be. He’s eating, chasing my hand and he goes over to the bichir from time to time and does a little somersault like he wants to play. He should be good to go now, only a few more weeks and he’ll be out of that little tank
