New flowerhorn!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ECW ECW as of right now he’s being treated with 3 different medications, this will be his 3rd out of 5 days of treatment. He’s on a medication for internal parasites, one for external parasites(ich) and one for fin rot etc. I’m going to do a water change today as well as he had just had one 2 days ago
Rajah. Stay on it. Keep us posted.

ECW ECW my biggest issue as of right now is getting him to eat, he won’t accept many foods and he doesn’t have the appetite that he should yet

Update today, he seems to be getting a little bit more active. Added 5 tiger barbs to see how he reacted to them, he doesn’t care about them at all. Fresh water change and 3rd day of medications. Also, this guy is a water pup, he let me pet him, hold him and do whatever I wanted to him!

Barbs might nip at him. Be careful and keep an eye. I would say, just take them out. Use mirror technique if you want him to be playful.

Yeah I'd be watching those barbs with nipping as Rutaraj says -- not sure why you put them in there, you're just increasing bio-load in an already small tank.

Also would advise not to get into petting or handling your FH -- it's really not good for their slime coating and can increase chance of fungal or bacteriall infections.

islandguy11 islandguy11 thanks for the heads up about handling them, I didn’t know! The main reasoning for introducing the tiger barbs were so that they could be dithers to let him know that everything is well in the tank since he’s been hiding. Neither care for eachother and the tank is extremely over filtered but they will be coming out soon

That works with community fish, like cories or pleco, they would come out if they see small fish like danio swimming around. Flowerhorn might look at them as prey but seems like yours doesn't.

I assume your fish is not hiding anymore, but if he is then turn down the light and give him some time.

Ruturaj Ruturaj he has come out of his shell a lot more since I added the others. He’s now began to accept food and follows me around wherever I walk in the room! He still needs time as he’s a little skittish still but he’s coming around. I’ll most likely take the barbs out soon, there’s been no aggression or fin nipping but I want him to have all the space he can have until I get him in his new tank

I think it was just a coincidence that your fh got comfortable in to new environment when you added barbs. Different fish react to same thing differently. I think adding barbs wouldn't affect flowerhorns behavior in the sense you intended. Either way if they are not nipping, your fh is not stressed and tank is not overloaded, it's fine. Barbs might get aggressive at night though.
