New Life Spectrum

Well Alex, even an ex salesman can admit when he is wrong.

I just completed some tests, under calm still water, with no agitation, using randomly chosen pellets from a pre Naturox formula (2mm AlgaeMax) and a post Naturox formula (3mm Large Fish), and in both tests approx. half of the pellets floated.

With the Large Fish formula I used 80 pellets, in a bucket containing approx. 4 gallons of water. I placed the pellets in my hand, and flipped my hand over from approx. 6-8" above the pail. They were not shot from a cannon. lol While many pellets immediately sunk, 38 remained floating, for several minutes. The same result with the 2mm AlgaeMax. After just seconds of dropping the pellets in a slight swirl of the hand sent the rest plummeting down. After giving a short swirl in the water 2 floaters remained in the AlgaeMax group, none in the Large Fish.

As I stated previously, in my tanks there is plenty of surface agitation so the pellets all sink straight away, which my simple test duplicated. But
in a tank with little to no surface agitation, I can see exactly what you described, which is a bummer for those that this affects.

So for those in Alex's situation that for whatever reason don't want to apply a workaround, I guess it's time to switch products.

He could add a cheap canister for surface agitation or even an air stone.

Every true fish keeper knows that anytime a pellet gets sucked through the teeth of an overflow and deposited directly into your mechanical filtration, an angel loses it's wings.

I have been projecting my emotions onto William. The reality is that I've been crying on the inside at the thought of all these wingless angels. =(

Here's an old video of the dense pellets that used to sink. Someday, if I find the strength, I'll film a new video to show the difference.

C'mon guys, if we carved out all the unpleasantry exchange, it would turn out to be a really fine, informative thread.

Why can't we be more diplomatic and kinder to each other and as a result we wouldn't have to waste time and energy on the extraneous fluff? Have we forsaken tact altogether?

I won't take sides despite having a position but you both were superbly admirable, honest, smart, and shown much integrity in so many posts and respects but at the same time you had to drag out your inner porcupines too.

Anyhow, I am no one to be scolding you. You qualify to do this to me.

I have been buying only NLS large fish formula for 10 years, five 4.4 lb buckets at a time and noted that perhaps 70%-90% sink fast, the rest sink slow, very small portion spends some time on my strongly agitated surface.

I've no experience yet with the new gen of NLS. But when I get them, I thank you profoundly for prepping me a bit.

Exactly, so next time you get the urge, don't bother.

I grew weary of the salesman card over a decade ago, so when/if a discussion drops to that level expect me to return the favour in spades. I don't owe anyone anything on this forum. I get why Alex got a bit bent at my response about not believing him, my bad. It's all good. No hard feelings on my part, hopefully none on his.

Haha.... thanks RD! Right on. You will always be one of the best in my book to who we owe much knowledge and the level of discussions we enjoy here.

I gave a bit of push back in regards to the NLS reps suggestion that I would have to pre-soak the pellets and/or turn off my pumps in order to feed without any angels losing their wings. I mentioned how I've never had to do that before, so why are the pellets so much more buoyant now than they used to be? Below was her response (I copied and pasted- all typos are hers):

Thank you for your reply, I understand your point. Could you be so kind to send me pictures of the lead of the bucket that most of the pellets are boyante. I would like to identify the batch of food you have so I can investigate in more details.

After having a meeting with our CEO he mentioned that this issues has been resolved, suggested me to ask you the number of lot and expiration date.

Do you still have the buckets?

With the intention to address this issue,

My best regards,
I just sent her pix of the bucket lids: lot#104 with expiration dates of Dec 2020 for the 3MM and 6/22 for the 1MM, so we'll see what they come back with. For those with OCD, I'm also curious why the expiration date format is different from one lid to another-lol.

But I do want to call out that she mentioned Pablo said that the issues had been resolved, so it sounds like there were some problems with pellets that were extra floaty.

In regards to hard feelings: my feelings were hurt by being called a BSing liar and being repeatedly mocked for saying that I liked to know details about why things are the way they are. Re-read the thread to see who threw the first punch.

However I have no hard feelings.

I know that if our debate ever got serious, I could obliterate William.

All I would have to say is that the main ingredient in NLS pellets is arsenic, and his head would literally explode, just like those watermelons that people wrap hundreds of rubber bands around until they eventually pop.

C'mon Will, even you have to admit, that's kinda funny. =)

My apologies, I forget sometimes how thin skinned some people are, and how easily feelings can get hurt. If I could I would reach through this monitor and hand you a tissue. And Alex, I never called you a BSing liar, what I said was: "If someone can set up a vid, showing less than half of the pellets sinking, I would love to see it. Until then, I'm calling BS. "
