they can get up to 12".
 
i know that. ive had even the great HAO say it can work an he has all kinds of bichirs.
 
well heres my advice.
the bigger you go in the beginning the better. that gives you more stocking options and more safty if you make a mistake.
you seem to like colorfull fish. try cichlids there are tons of them
or if you really want your bichir then get it. its just that wouldnt leave you much room. If I was you I would get a few oddball fish to make your tank differant from others heres a few---
eels ( smaller spiney eels like the peacock ect...)
bgk ( black ghost knivefish for the 75)
elephant nose (not really a beginner fish dont mix with knives.)
african butterfly fish(...)
so do what you want to do.

I think that is really pushing it. where is the mod that said that?
 
That was my return moment, when I read they get that big! Also what brought me here. I'm sure he would have been fine in my current tank for a while. But when my barbs would start disappearing I wouldn't have been happy!! Petsmart said he only needed 20gals + and only get 6-8" on their tag for him...lies I tell you lies!!!
 
im not releasing the mods name cause i dont want him/her to be criticized
 
an thats what im sayin a del could be in the 37 if it was the only fish in the tank.

um that last post didnt make since.
 
SpJ I like the idea of 75g with a BGK. And yes I LOVE the Bichir, and I like color also, so the Del is probably the first choice if I do just 1. I just want to keep options open and see what you guys with experience with the bichirs know say.
