the paragraph is confusing....it appears they are saying the male has a tube? Does the male actually have a projecting sex organ at times that comes out of his body?

At breeding time both sexes will have a tube.males are sharp and pointed and a females is blunt and rounded.

you can try that, for Oscars I am under the opinion that until you see one lay no telling what sex Oscar you have.

This is what I've always read too.
I thought you couldn't reliably sex oscars until they hit maturity.
